  1. Peripherally related trivia: Nick Offerman was a student at University of Illinois when I was there. I'm pretty darn sure my wife (then girlfriend) and I saw him starring in a play called "A Little Hotel on the Side" back around 1990. When I first saw him on Parks and Rec I immediately recalled him in that play. Jim O'Heir, who played Gary, Jerry, etc. on Parks and Rec was in the class ahead of mine in High School. Didn't recognize him and make the connection until a bunch of my High School friends on Fakebook were conversing with him. Looked him up in the old yearbook...oh yeah...THAT guy! Back to your regularly scheduled, Aussie sponsored programming!
  2. I could totally see this. If I wanted anyone on this forum to have a superpower, it would definitely be Bruce.
  3. That's 'cause you're in Iowa, where you scoff at snow. Here in DC it's snowmageddon! We panic easily, shut down schools, and hoard toilet paper if snow is forecast anywhere within 500 miles of here. To actually get snow...that's end of the world type of stuff!
  4. Interesting. Will look into that.
  5. Gia is doing her thing to stoke the chaos here in the DC region, because we definitely don't have enough chaos here. The boys are hunkering down, waiting for their moment to shine. That's the driveway we just finished shoveling. Already covered with a bit more. Realize this is nothing compared with what many of you endure, but it doesn’t take much to paralyze the DC region.
  6. I've done that Raichlen recipe and agree it is simple, but very, very good. Most of his recipes are top notch.
  7. Will have to see what I can do. Early sunsets have impacted my ability to get outdoor cooking pics with decent light.

    Tacos!

A smoke pot is another way to limit your emissions to thin, blue, sweet smelling smoke. Search this forum for "smoke pot" or "smoking pot" and @Syzygies to see what that's all about. Make sure you keep the search words in that order.

If your goal was to get me off my duff to go make some carne asada, it worked. Even if that wasn't your goal...still worked.
  10. Common mistake. Live and learn. A KK is the best you can buy, whatever size you go with. Any questions for the peanut gallery? I have have both a 23 and a 32. Can't go wrong with either.
  11. That's my opinion too. Was wondering if anyone out there liked it.
  12. Looking good! Need to do some ribs soon. What did you think of Crossroads?
  13. Maybe try other brands of lump? What you describe isn’t typical for me, but have seen considerable white smoke when I use cheaper lump at low temps. At high temps you shouldn’t see much smoke with any charcoal, although cheaper lump tends to be less dense and will burn quicker.
  14. Top vent 1/2 turn with lower left dial at 15 degrees works for me. You may want to start more open than that to get things going, then dial in when within 50F or so of your target.
  15. Nice! Where did you get those skewers? My wife got a Konro for Christmas and they look to be just the thing.
  16. Love how you used the Octoforks to augment the traditional. Never thought of that. Will have to give that a spin (rimshot!).
  17. Your wish is my command. Here she is opening the box. This is the very moment of discovery. The next moment was not captured out of self defense. My daughter, the Asian expert in the background helped explain that it’s like Japanese fondue. My wife loves fondue. She now loves “her” grill and asked for Yakitori for New Year’s Day. She bought me a flight of Gesha coffees and asked me if that was good. Ummm, yeah! Just a little bit!
  18. Nice and toastie on the coastie. A bit o’ Christmas poetry for you!
  19. Merry Christmas, y’all! Can’t wait until wife opens her gift.
  20. Beautiful! We definitely have another baker in the house! The Pizza Bible is awesome. Much better than Forkish on pizza.
