  1. Jeff, do you leave the CS in place when doing other cooking on the KK?? Maybe plug the hole in the CS? AND, did you use a special rubber "O" ring for that Mounting Flange to Bushing friction fit?
  2. Thanks Jeff, that is very self explanatory. I understand that the Bushing wedges itself in the Guru Port and it appears to do so very snugly but has anyone come up with a way to keep the Smoking Wood container (tall cylinder with hot coals in it) from rotating on the Smoke Tube? I saw one Post using strapping material but my brain is working on using SS Band Clamps, like for hoses, through the bolt holes/slots and then around the body of the Cylinder. Does that sound feasible?
  3. No birds in that one, yet, JonB MacKenzie, is that a bubbler in the B-Bath to keep the water from freezing?
  4. Somebody correct me but that appears to be the "Jacket" to which the tiles are affixed. I would be very afraid to mess with that layer.

    Ribeye and Pie

She had two things happen, but what is visible there is the shaved patch for allergy testing. She scratches herself to destruction/infection and has been treated for the past 6 months, but it seems to have zero effect. So I am feeling like it is a psychosomatic when she get nervous she scratches. What you cannot see is a later shaved patch for spaying. She is a very smart dog, to smart, and fun to train. Knows the names of all her toys AND the color of them!! She works to voice (2 languages) and hand signals and whistle toots and since she is only 19 mo old I suspect I will have her driving me home from a pub in a few years We also use her to take things from one spouse to the other.
  6. OK, my Cold Smoker arrived today but it also arrived without any instructions. I get it that the pump tube attachment screws into the side of the CS and that the large tube pushes into the CS and rotates in to lock in place. I also understand that there is the fatter sleeve that is affixed to the large smoke pipe to bush it out for the fit into the Guru Port. What fails me is the set screw in that fat sleeve. The way it arrived from the factory the screw allows the fat bushing to go into the Guru Port only 1/4" before hitting that screw head. I must assume that this sleeve was put onto the smoke tube backwards, am I correct? Also the Bushing's set screw engaged one of two holes in that smoke pipe, is this what is supposed to happen? If I reverse the Bushing and engage one of the two holes in the Smoke Tube then the end of the Bushing is flush with the Smoke Tube which appears correct to me. Have I gotten the procedure correct with the set screw keeping the Bushing from going to far into the Guru Port?
  7. Was the EX, hopefully it is and EX, employed by the Air National Guard and took it for a ride in a C-130 and kicked it out?? Man, that is abuse for sure... Was the EX smart enough to attack the interior??
  8. Thanks Bruce, it is a fun place to meditate with a beverage of choice while watching the marine activity. You never know what will show up in the yard.
  9. Ha! Actually it was the first thing I did, look under the rear wheels and you will see wedges. When I built the patio, which is 8ft off the ground at the highest point, I planned for a drainage slope so water will not sit on it in a pool and freeze into a skating rink. That is a good tip though for anyone putting a KK onto any sloped surface, they roll very nicely.
  10. I started out cooking on my father's BGE that he purchased in Japan and had it shipped back in 1959 or 1960. After the military and college I purchased a place to build a home of my own AND purchased a Kamado because I missed it so much. It was what was sold as a "California Kamado" with a glazed exterior so the maintenance was easier. It was a 21" as I recall. I had it for 20 years and when we moved it stayed; I missed it and tried to duplicate with a masonry firebox and masonry surround for it with bottom draft but I could not duplicated the dome so I got a Weber dome. It just was not the same cooking experience AND the grill was an 18" diameter cooking area. I always was fighting the heat zones so fast forward to today and I have a BB32 and love its cooking area. I can move the food to the area of the grill that is the hottest or coldest. I can adjust the firebox size for whatever it is I plan on cooking. There is plenty of distance between the fire and the grill (s) so you can sear or smoke, your choice. The roti baskets are just a plus as are the great cooking stone. I know in the future I will probably get the TT16 so 2 different cooks can be going at the same time. As a recommendation for 1 (one) KK the 23 would be a real great cooker if you only want to own 1. Black Pebble would show less soot if black fits into your architectural theme. Happy cooking!
  11. Thank you Syzygles. They look like a good way to go and infinitely easier to operate than the SealAmeal cheapies. No leaning on something that will eventually lose its seal. I vacuum pack coffee beans and on occasion food related meal portions. Thank you for this good Thread.
  12. How does one get on the "Specials" notification list for these chamber sealers?
  13. Wish you were in the Seattle area!
  14. If you really want to get OCD about the "heat soaking" you could measure the EXTERIOR of the KK with an infrared thermometer/heatgun thingy and compare that to the Dome temps. After a while you will be able to just put your hands on the outside of the KK on the dome and below the grill area to get an idea if you are "Heat Soaked" to your satisfaction. I got my infrared thermometer out for the first burn-in high temps to see what it really was doing since I could feel it on a 45f degree day.
  15. I looked at what I typed and wow, what a mess! I tried to say "The dog might want to lick the mess off the grass". Old, arthritic hands and poor eyes and lack of sleep are dangerous!
  16. That was a nice gift! I am looking forward to seeing what you spin in the roti.
  17. Well that tears it, you threw in a fishing trip with the worm and alcohol!!
  18. OOPS!!! Is your Forum name a first or last name, or just something made up? Named after a river in Oregon??!!?? My Forum name is an intentional misspelling the speed of light travel, something that seems to be my life in retrospect.
  19. I know what it was but do not know it's diameter.
  20. MacKenzie, what was the diameter of that tray that you were using for smoking the nuts? It fit the KK perfectly.
  21. A stainless plate and some SS Bolts, a corresponding tap, and a very large drill bit or two are in my future.
  22. I would suggest a nice single malt, an easy chair and a slow cook on the KK
