  1. I got my shipping update today, and the grill is still on the water, was supposed to dock today but now it's scheduled to dock on May 5th. Sounds like it may be close, but might be able to fire it up by Memorial Day if all goes smoothly.
  2. Welcome Kevin. I had the same questions and am coming from a Kamado Joe Classic which is 18", and was considering the 23". Dennis and several members on here convinced me that with the half grate and the new and improved basket splitter, I could have the best of both worlds with the 32, so I went that way. Apparently one KK is not enough, so you can always get a BB32 for your next one.
  3. I'm a big fan, especially of their beef ribs, tri-tips, and lamb. They had a special on dry-aged ground beef, 10lb for $64 which is cheaper than most groceries around here. Their gift certificates are now the standard birthday, Fathers Day, Christmas gifts from my kids, and that works for me! Sign up for their newsletter, I think you get 10% off your first order. I've also found discount codes at Amazing Ribs, Thermoworks, Traeger and some of the other grilling websites. Do a search for "Dino Ribs", if they are out, have them put you on the wait list.
  4. I believe mine was the same, 5 or 6 years later. My brother had been to SF and told me about the great beer he had, then we saw it a few days later in a specialty store, so we bought six. First few swallows I thought it was bitter and rough, 3 bottles later I knew I was hooked. Then I later found Pete's Wicked, and few years later Sam Adams. We just called them microbrews back then, but I guess you really can't call Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Stone etc. microbrews anymore.
  5. It is autumn gold, wasn't my first color choice, but it came down to getting a grill before summer vs after summer, and a KK in the hand... If you were getting the dark autumn nebula, then I would be all over the trade.
  6. Anyone else use the Untappd beer tracking app? Based on the fair number of comments and photos, there seems to be quite a few fans of craft beer on this board. Untappd lets you search menus of local watering holes, rate your beers, and review the ratings others given for the same beer. It will also give you details on the beer style and information about the brewery. If anyone else is on and wants to connect, my name of the app is "Catfishbrewer".
  7. I have not received any shipping information yet, but I assume all our grills are still on the same ship. @Forrest mentioned the cargo container was getting a physical inspection, which I assume will add some time to the schedule. I did see Dennis has more grill covers in stock, so I plan on contacting him when I see he is online and ask about adding one to my order, maybe I'll get a shipping update at that time.
  8. Hi Braindoc, I too ended up buying a BB32 that was a cancelled order and not my first color choice, and it is also still on the ship, bobbing around somewhere in the Pacific . I was originally thinking 21 or 23, but most on here along with Dennis thought a 32 would be the best fit. I'm coming from a Kamado Joe, so I'm hoping that will put me ahead of the learning curve a bit and I don't ruin too many cooks. I've already had a lot of questions answered before I bought mine, so everyone here is quite helpful with questions, and they don't have any problems helping you spend your money either.
  9. I was working on my taxes this morning, and it looks like I'm getting about a $250 refund from the state. First thing that went through my head was "ooh, I could get the cold smoker attachment with that!". Am I going to start looking at the costs of things I need and/or want, then automatically convert that into what accessories I could get for the KK?
  10. 15% off FOGO when you spend $50 using code FOGOSEASON15. I've been disappointed in their black bags lately, lots of chips and dust, but that could just be from mishandling during shipping, trying the yellow bag this time. I'll also keep an eye out for the KJ at Costco.
  11. I too did a Costco leg of lamb, made a paste of fresh garlic, mint and rosemary, let it marinate overnight, then cooked it on the rotisserie close to 400. It turned out great and was quickly inhaled by my guests. @BARDSLJRI see you left a significant amount of fat on the leg, I trimmed most of the fat off of mine. As this was only my second boneless leg, I wasn't sure of how much fat to trim, but I went with the less fat, more spice and smoke exposure for the meat. I've heard that lamb fat can be gamey and should be trimmed, but I've also heard it's delicious and one should leave some of it on the meat. Just curious how others approach trimming a leg of lamb.
  12. Looks like the waiting room for new KK deliveries is starting to fill up! Which color did you get and which accessories? I too will vouch for Thermoworks, I have the Signals, two Thermapens, a Thermopop, and another with a long probe I use for brewing.
  13. Forrest, if it is copper sulfate, it will stick to the metal and should be easily wiped off. It wouldn't affect your smoke or your flavor and definitely not get into the food. Not a cause for concern, more of me being a science nerd and getting excited when I saw you had done a chemistry experiment. Now I have to try to duplicate it when my smoker pot shows up.
  14. When not grilling and brewing, my day job is a chemist, that is why that residue on the lid of the pot caught my eye. I was incorrect when I said there shouldn't be any copper in stainless steel, it is used in some grades, so that would explain the copper sulfate as I guess the grade of SS used in a sink strainer is not quite the same as that used in the smoker pot. I am familiar with the bluing, and yes that is quite normal, and I think it is great that you guys did jump in with your explanations, shows how helpful this group can be, so thanks for that. And passivating, I remember doing that with the brass ball valve on my first boil kettle before upgrading to all SS parts, I can still smell the vinegar.
  15. What is the blue residue on the lid? It looks like copper sulfate, but since everything is stainless, there shouldn't be any copper involved. Hopefully you didn't melt your glove! Still, you can add me to the list of those that have bought the pot.
  16. With all the home brewers here, we may need to add another sub-category to the recipe section!
  17. This is so true. When I got the message on March 13th that where I work was closed and I would be working remotely until further notice, I never even imagined I would still be working from home a year later. You just never know what is in store next. That is a nice looking grill, and it will look great in my "woodsy" backyard. For accessories, I definitely want the rotisserie, and I would think the stronger motor would be preferable based on the size of the grill and the amount of meat I would be able to fit on the spit. I would also like side tables, and it sounds like the charcoal basket splitter is a no-brainer. The cold smoker would nice as would the pizza stones, but I may be limited by what accessories he is including with this shipment, though he did "it was loaded". Any other recommendations?
  18. I did contact Dennis today, actually he called me after I opened the chat box. I asked about timelines for the custom tiles he has on the website along with other questions about best grill size fit for me. He agreed (as did many of you) the 32 would work well for me. As for the tiles, he said there a quite a few back orders to fill from when the tile factory was closed due to Covid, so if I chose one of those custom colors, it would be mid-summer at the earliest before it could be shipped and delivered. If I chose blue, it would be even longer since the demand for those is greater. He does have a similar color grill that is supposed to show up in California late March, early April. The colors are close, my wife really likes it as do I, but not quite as much as the autumn nebula. A lot of what I've read from you guys, most everyone wished they jumped on board earlier than than they actually did, so I am trying to decide if it's worth the wait for that one perfect color. Dennis also said that once he puts the autumn gold on Instagram and the website, it won't last very long, and I believe him. Would you guys be happy with your (close) second choice of color if it meant you would be grilling on it 4 months earlier? The grill is the one I can go ahead and buy now, and a close up of those tiles are the picture beneath the grill. The tiles to the right of the grill are what I was going to choose if I chose custom tiles. When I see them like this, there is really little difference.
  19. Sweet brewing setup! I have been eyeing the Hop Rocket, how do you like it? I also have a kegerator I converted to a two tap system, I have both ball lock and Sankey connections so I can go commercial when my personal inventory is low. Sounds like a nice setup on the grill accessories, I'm still contemplating everything including color, I should probably contact Dennis soon as it looks like August for arrival if I order soon.
  20. Those are gorgeous tiles, now I am having second (3rd 4th?) thoughts.
  21. I was in Minneapolis, went to the beer dinner at I think it was Surly, then on to a baseball game. I go easy on pro brewers night, or whatever it is called now, and valiantly attempt to try as many homebrews as I can on club night. I have been thinking about SD, but I have to see how CA and the rest of the country is doing before a cross country flight. Plus I could use that money on a few more KK accessories.
  22. In the southeastern US, we fry anything, and fried turkey is delicious! I never fried one in my brew pot, but I may have steamed a bushel of oysters or two. Not sure if there is a place for beer in the recipe section, but I will get you the recipe. I love brewing with rye, it can get a bit sticky so I always use rice hulls so I don't end up with a stuck sparge. I brewed a spruce tip rye IPA once with spruce tips I picked off a tree at a place I was staying in Maine, one of my favorite beers I've brewed. Have you ever tried smoking your malt for a rauchbier or other smoked beer using your KK? I smoked a couple pounds of 2-row with cherry wood, and made a smoked porter which was really nice. Now I'm wondering if I need to pick up the cold smoker when I order my grill....
  23. Thanks Troble. I have a few obstacles to overcome before I commit to the 32. According to the dimensions it's almost 36x36, and if I want it on my deck, it is going to have to go through the house and I'm not sure it will make it out the back door to the deck. Alternatively, it could go under the deck on the patio, but there is a decent hill to get from the front yard to the back yard. At least it is downhill!
  24. @Tony we have probably passed each other at a past NHC, and if you were in Baltimore or Philly, you may have tried one of my beers on club night!
