GoFrogs91 Posted October 17, 2015 Report Posted October 17, 2015 Looks perfect in the backyard. Time to have some fun! Benton
Chicagobill Posted October 17, 2015 Author Report Posted October 17, 2015 Doing the initial heat soak. My understanding is get the grill up to 230-260 for 3-5 hours then slowly move it up to 500 til coals burn out. Am I close on the initial burn?
tinyfish Posted October 17, 2015 Report Posted October 17, 2015 I would take it right to 500f slowly. Once at 500f it will still take at least two plus hours for the cement to heat soak enough to start venting the venting process. Leave it at 500f till you don't smell the chemical smell.
5698k Posted October 17, 2015 Report Posted October 17, 2015 Get it more like 350°-400° for the first three hours. Slowly from there until you get a chemical smell and park it, let it cook. Robert
Chicagobill Posted October 17, 2015 Author Report Posted October 17, 2015 Thanks guys. I got it to 230 and stuck it there which is good to know for the long smoke. My first cook maybe a large pork butt or two.
ckreef Posted October 18, 2015 Report Posted October 18, 2015 That is a really nice looking KK. I generally like the tile look over pebbles but if I was going pebbles I think that would be the color choice - outstanding!
wilburpan Posted October 18, 2015 Report Posted October 18, 2015 Congratulations on your KK grill! I’m partial to earth tone pebble tile, having an Olive Gold pebble KK 23†myself. The initial burn in process is pretty forgiving. Even if you don’t get it all on the first try, it all works out.
Poochie Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Beautiful set you have there. I love the color of that Komodo. If there's another in my future, it's that color or cobalt blue.
