  1. Remember the pic of the snow on my deck on NYD? Well, I cleared it off yesterday enough to get to the KK to cook dinner, seeing as it was the warmest day we'll see this week (34F). A couple of notes: 1) Reminder if you live where it's cold like here, remember to take out your dome thermometer. I know better and forgot. Did a temperature check in boiling water and it was reading over 10F low. Not a biggie, but I'll adjust it before the next cook. 2) A very cold KK takes much longer to warm up than "normal." It's been in the single digits here most of the week during the day and below zero at night. I usually can get the KK up to temp (325F in this case) in about 30 minutes. Last night it took well over an hour. Threw off my whole cooking schedule. Which I took advantage of with an extra glass of wine while waiting! Trader Joe's chicken shawarma thighs on the menu. Plated with curried rice, side salad and homemade tzatziki sauce. Good thing there's leftovers, as we're back in the deep freeze again. Super windy, too. Windchills in the -15F range all day today. High tomorrow and Friday of 2F. Stay warm and safe, ya'll. Poor folks stranded on the VA highway overnight had it pretty rough!

  5. Happy new year everyone - hope 2022 brings everyone much happiness and good health. We are a couple of months into our journey with the KK, and we are loving it. Particularly like the cattleman’s steak (rib eye on the bone), pizzas and ribs. Tonight was a cracking night in Sydney and we threw a few Morton bay bugs (I think they are called flat head lobster elsewhere) on the KK with a little garlic and ginger butter and grilled for 5 mins in shell side then a few mins on the meat side. Finished off with so chives, green chillies and lime - They were delicious!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. A policeman pulls MacKenzie over for speeding in her Corvette. Officer: Miss, do you know how fast you were going? MacKenzie: Yes, officer, I was going around 40 in this 25 zone. Officer: I'm glad you admit it. I'm afraid I'm going to have to give you a ticket. MacKenzie: Can't you let it go this time? I live just a half mile from here. I won't let it happen again. Officer: A half mile makes it worse. Don't you know that most accidents happen within 5 miles of your home? Mackenzie: No sir, I didn't. So the next day MacKenzie moved.

  14. Several people including me answered him. But we did drift into another world after that. Not the first time and surely not the last.

  15. I bought a Solidteknics pan a few years ago.. had some kind of gold finish on it.. The first issue I had was how thin and cheap feeling it was then the gold color started to come off and I gave it away.. I like my pans to have heft to them.. at least the bottom. This was stamped out of thin sheet.. I'll stick with my lodge pans..

  16. Tony has passed away and unfortunately has a free ticket to the giant Komodo known as Hell. Satan greets him and gives him some choices: Satan: Greetings Tony, you can spent your afterlife in one of these 3 rooms. Here’ s our first room. Tony looks in to see a guy on a rack getting stretched and he’s screaming. Tony: No thanks. That looks painful Satan: Maybe you’d enjoy room number 2. Inside the room is a fellow chained to a wall and getting whipped. Tony: That’s not how I want to spend eternity. Let’s see the last room. Satan: As you wish. Take a look inside room number three. Inside the room is a bunch of people standing around drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. However, they are waist deep in cow patties. Tony: The cow crap part sucks but it beats the other rooms by a mile. I’ll take it. As he enters the room a cup of coffee and his choice of smokes are offered. A short time later an announcement comes over a speaker…”Ok everyone, coffee break is over. Back on your heads.”

  17. I have no doubt that Satan uses Royal Oak 100% natural briquettes.

  20. Yes, I am going to have to explore this rotisserie basket cooking deal, I will look for ideas in the cooking/ recipe forum. I ordered the cobalt blue in pebbles....I kept reading that the pebbles cooked food better and the lump would last longer! What lump do you recommend when having to buy local...I have been using big block and jealous devil. I used red oak for a long time, but it burns up much quicker. Thank you Mark

  21. I agree with Tyrus. Get the accessories you THINK you need or want now. Cry once and enjoy all the goodies instead of wishing you would have splurged a little bit more later. The rotisserie is well thought out and works like a charm. Basket splitter too. The shelves are handy on every single cook. Think of the pizza stone as a bread stone too. It's a hefty 42 pounds for the 32". But since you have experience with the Primo and Kamado Joe, I'm sure you know what you'd use more often. Good luck on your selection. Oh yeah, you forgot to tell us the what color and tiles or pebbles.

  22. I have the 23 Ultimate, the 32 does quite a bit more begrudgingly, the added space gives you that advantage. Once you receive your grill, & open the package you'll realize the quality of your purchase. A rotisserie on a grill is hypnotic/relaxing/an advantage since you don't have to turn the meat. It makes life easier, and although you may not use it every day it's there when you need it/want it. Good decision Mark, one you won't regret.
