Just to add to the confusion , I live in Maryland but was also born in Philadelphia. My KK however was born in Indonesia and has decided to live with me in MD . -
Wow.. I have never seen anything like the people at KK.. They actually do exactly what they say and do it promptly. The cooker works like a charm and everything is thought out and constantly being refined to make a better product. The fact that the input from this forum makes it into the final product is a breath of fresh air.. Keep it up Dennis

Pre-Dry, Pre-Smoke and now Pre-Heating

If you have looked at the science and find it inconclusive as science then you have an obligation not to believe the science. If you have a problem with the concept of science dealing with systems as large and complex as analayzing global climate . Than that is also your privelige. Nuff said -
Pre-Dry, Pre-Smoke and now Pre-Heating
rorkin replied to DennisLinkletter's topic in KK Announcements
Actually I agree that all the points made re Gaia and parallel to religious fervor are accurate.. But that does not mean that the science is wrong.. It is also true that horses and sheep are both 4 legged mammals that live in North America .. But so what. Lots of similarities but so what. To quote an old sayings.. "even Paranoids have real enemies" -
Pre-Dry, Pre-Smoke and now Pre-Heating

We all have our priorities Upon further examination of the picture posted by Dennis.. It looks more like a bunch of KK's pulling on a Hookah. This being much more acceptable and enviro-friendly -
Pre-Dry, Pre-Smoke and now Pre-Heating

Another Point of View.. Not meaning to be castigated as a tree hugging carnivore may I make the following observation. The world is coming to recognize that we are running out of fossil fuel and that the burning of it increases the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is killing the planet.. I would suggest forgoing 10 hours per KK of wasted gas which only cures a minor and in fact principally cosmetic problem.. If people know that it can happen and it is pointed out in large letters in any documentation with the cooker, then they wont be surprised I don't think anyone wants to return the cooker because of the problem. I am sure you want to eliminate the problem but not only is this non earth friendly but adds to the cost of the product. Let the flames begin.. -
I was wondering how anyone using the Stoker with the KK has mounted the fan ??

Galvanized Rear Spring and Ash Screen

Hope you test those springs before shipping.. It is hard to keep that galvanizing from flaking off over time when it is on a spring -
Survey.. Loose the Charcoal basket ring?
rorkin replied to DennisLinkletter's topic in KK Announcements
I really don't see the point of the small ring.. I just fill er up , and when done close off the KK . This leaves lots of remaining charcoal for the next cook. I don't think it really saves anything.. The amount consumed over the time of the cook at a given temp and air flow is probably independent of the charcoal load. For what its worth Rory -
I think there is a misconception here..Just because the sleeve can resist the temperature without burning.. that does not mean it will insulate the wires inside from prolonged high temperatures. For example, the tile and refractory on the KK itself can withstand the temperature but that doesn't mean that they do not transmit heat.

How did skin turn out ?? I see you did direct.. Were the coals under the chicken or pushed to the back ??

Dennis would you please post a notice when Pizza stone is available for purchase along with price and details of how to order ??

Just look for something similar and simple , there are other brands of weed burners. Buying local may be a good idea anyway. It has to fit the thread of a small locally available propane cylinder.
-
Where do you buy your meat ? BJ's and Sams around here do not seem to have the chuck roll even if you ask the butcher.. Some of the local markets want almost $3 /lb which is over $1/lb more than it should be..
-
I like the weed burner just stuck in from the top because, aside from being quick and easy, it allows you to control how much and where to light the charcoal I like the Bernzomatic see link below http://www.amazon.com/BernzoMatic-Trigg ... B00008ZA0F
