  1. I was speaking to a potential customer and he asked me how most people get their KK off the palette? Although I've put a lot of them on palettes, I have very little experience taking them off.. So would you please tell me how ya did it?
  2. The German CNC guys are the best but they are also too damn expensive. (the best always is;-) The CNC laser cut and bent metal is really necessary to set the quality bar high for the whole Gen II but is not really necessary for the side tables.. This high bar requires I offer matching best and baddest quality side tables. But now I have two in-house built more affordable but still Komodo quality tables.
  3. If you are having problems getting to temp there are only a few factors.. One your charcoal might be less than dry also.. This will slow things down greatly and can be determined by feeling the exhaust for moisture/steam.. Two fuel and airflow.. You might just need to light more charcoal.. If things are really damp in there as this moisture turns to vapor this instant high humidity could also hinder things from taking off.. This is a perfect time to use my favorite BBQ accessory.. The cheapo hairdryer.. using one guarantees the charcoal you do have burning will get up to high enough temps to ignite all the charcoal around it.. once you have the entire bowl of charcoal burning this will absolutely vaporize any moisture you have in your Komodo. It might also be a good idea to do one hot cook before retiring your KK for the winter season.. this will burn off any drippings that are the nutrients for that mold growing in there..
  4. Re: Wow - Waited for what? I'm thoroughly flattered... http://komodokamado.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=25553&highlight=#25553 Waited for what? I'm thoroughly flattered... This coming from the guy who has built the best looking BBQ I've seen on the web and the inspiration for mine..

  9. Primo Primo's lawyers wrote me on April 1st (fools day;-) and threatened the world if I built my 32" big bad Komodo saying it infringed on their patented oval shape.. and it would confuse their customers.. I wrote them a very funny reply about how my cooker's shape is based on a heart not an oval and how a child could see the difference between the two cookers. Also the fact that I would not want to be confused with a cooker that cost only 1/3 of what mine does.. Never heard back from them..
  10. Komodos are not for everybody I of course never mind comparisons.. nor am I ever threatened by a glazed Pot with simple straps and grills outshining my multi layer body and 82 lbs of 304 stainless.. Actually not fair to compare the two.. Komodos are not for everybody any more than performance sports cars are.. but for those enthusiasts who can't live without cooking on charcoal and can afford them, a Komodo can't be beat.. They may be expensive but they are a great value if you look at what you're actually getting for you money.. much more bang for your buck if you compare them to any of the other ceramics.. But then again, there is no way I could ever be objective. Every parent loves his kids.. I think if I was to buy one of the "other" ceramics I'd lean towards the Primo..
  11. The new KK ones are better built anyway.. I have 6" baskets for the 19.5" Lil' Isla being built as I type.. I will never leave you high and dry.. I had arranged for the EZ-Que people to build them but they never came thru and then went chapter 11. The new KK ones are better built anyway.. (of course;-)

  14. Re: Moving a KK Yes, I send them all over the world.. To open your KK crate, you just remove the two lag bolts at the base of each post. The crate then lifts up and off the palette. If you take notes and keep the crate and packing materials you will be able to use the original crate again and again.. Welcome to the forum..
  15. Thanks for the kudos.. For those interested.. I have not seen any of the costing information.. I made up the smaller all teak ones and got feedback in this post above.. Ran out got the stone and it's been a rush to the finish line to get them done and into the container which left today. Most of the shots with the marble top were shot at noon and the color is a bit washed out.. They are much richer looking than in the photos.. The tiger looking streaks will balance out.. I probably won't have a cost until mid week next week.. Thanks again for the kudos..
  16. I've been celebrating anniversaries of my 45th Birthday for 4 years and now it's time I just stepped up to the plate and celebrated 50.. So I'll be having a few too many tonight and cooking up some more of those Wagyu Tri Tips.. Food Porn shots to follow..

Welcome
  18. I get a bottle of wine if I'm lucky... I wish I had a friend who like me enough to give me a Komodo! I get a bottle of wine if I'm lucky...
  19. I'd cook and eat a nice tri tip over a tenderloin any day... Absolutely.. This is imported from AU.. So we have transportation and import taxes built in.. as I said, I'm sure she's giving me their business/hotel discount. If they only were buying it once, at $5.40/lb. I'd buy a freezer just to load up... I'm a die hard TriTip fan.. I think it's the best flavor and texture going for beef.. I'd cook and eat a nice tri tip over a tenderloin any day...
