  1. It seems the consensus is if it aint' broke dont fix it.. I spoke to someone who suggested a way to improve the KK would be an easier way to empty the ashes out.. so I put on my thinking cap and went to sleep.. It seems the consensus is if it aint' broke dont fix it.. That's why this feedback is invaluable.. I refer to it as interactive BBQ design..
  2. Welcome to the forum.. Heylo Reece.. Welcome to the forum.. Always nice to have a face to attach to a name.. I look forward to you cooking on your KK.
  3. Home Run.. Knocked out of this World! Serious Food Porn... Even the uncooked meat shot has me flustered... Wish I could be meat like that here.. Seriously beautiful.. Thanks for sharing..
  4. DINING & WINE | June 30, 2010 The Minimalist: 101 Fast Recipes for Grilling By MARK BITTMAN The summer is young, and the backyard grill is ready for something new. Expand your cooking repertory with these ideas.
  5. Another idea.. Trans bag holder What about a frame with the same rods that the front draft door have. It will fit into the draft door frame assembly.. A trash bag can be slipped inside the frame and folded back.. Then frame with rods (and bag) can then be slid into the guide tubes holding the bag in the front draft door hole.. ashes can then be swept into the bag without 15% ending up on your porch.. Anybody follow that?
  6. What's your feelings about a 4" big old pipe dead center in the floor of the KK which could be opened with a sliding plate like the volume adjuster on the Guru's airflow nozzle? Up top in the floor it could be a bit wider like a funnel. This way you could put your dri pan under your KK slide open the plate and your ash would simply and easily slide down into it.. PS You could also attach a leaf blower to it to get those serious high temps for searing and smelting metal!
  7. I've shipped hundreds of containers from Asia in the last 25 years.. I've often had containers get stuck in Singapore trying to get on the Mother ship to the States especially durning the pre-Christmas rush.. But this is a first.. my last box was "discharged" in Kobe Japan... I never knew that any of the big mother ships did anything but go directly to the States.. It looks like the Japanese pay more and can get boxes pulled and sidelined so their boxes have a place.. I will raise hell to deaf ears.. Especially difficult to swallow when I'm paying almost $5,000 for a 40' container. This bumps up the ETA to July 14th.
  8. Ten Cabinets on the way ETA July 2nd I just realized that I never announced that we built 4 of the larger Teak and Marble OTB shaped cabinets and 3 Pairs of the smaller Teak OTB fitting cabinets..
  9. I was speaking to a potential customer and he asked me how most people get their KK off the palette? Although I've put a lot of them on palettes, I have very little experience taking them off.. So would you please tell me how ya did it?
  10. The German CNC guys are the best but they are also too damn expensive. (the best always is;-) The CNC laser cut and bent metal is really necessary to set the quality bar high for the whole Gen II but is not really necessary for the side tables.. This high bar requires I offer matching best and baddest quality side tables. But now I have two in-house built more affordable but still Komodo quality tables.
  11. If you are having problems getting to temp there are only a few factors.. One your charcoal might be less than dry also.. This will slow things down greatly and can be determined by feeling the exhaust for moisture/steam.. Two fuel and airflow.. You might just need to light more charcoal.. If things are really damp in there as this moisture turns to vapor this instant high humidity could also hinder things from taking off.. This is a perfect time to use my favorite BBQ accessory.. The cheapo hairdryer.. using one guarantees the charcoal you do have burning will get up to high enough temps to ignite all the charcoal around it.. once you have the entire bowl of charcoal burning this will absolutely vaporize any moisture you have in your Komodo. It might also be a good idea to do one hot cook before retiring your KK for the winter season.. this will burn off any drippings that are the nutrients for that mold growing in there..

  17. Primo Primo's lawyers wrote me on April 1st (fools day;-) and threatened the world if I built my 32" big bad Komodo saying it infringed on their patented oval shape.. and it would confuse their customers.. I wrote them a very funny reply about how my cooker's shape is based on a heart not an oval and how a child could see the difference between the two cookers. Also the fact that I would not want to be confused with a cooker that cost only 1/3 of what mine does.. Never heard back from them..
  18. Komodos are not for everybody I of course never mind comparisons.. nor am I ever threatened by a glazed Pot with simple straps and grills outshining my multi layer body and 82 lbs of 304 stainless.. Actually not fair to compare the two.. Komodos are not for everybody any more than performance sports cars are.. but for those enthusiasts who can't live without cooking on charcoal and can afford them, a Komodo can't be beat.. They may be expensive but they are a great value if you look at what you're actually getting for you money.. much more bang for your buck if you compare them to any of the other ceramics.. But then again, there is no way I could ever be objective. Every parent loves his kids.. I think if I was to buy one of the "other" ceramics I'd lean towards the Primo..
  19. The new KK ones are better built anyway.. I have 6" baskets for the 19.5" Lil' Isla being built as I type.. I will never leave you high and dry.. I had arranged for the EZ-Que people to build them but they never came thru and then went chapter 11. The new KK ones are better built anyway.. (of course;-)
