Puurfect answer from the Monkey.. Right on the money answer.. Could not have said it better myself..

Basic thermodynamics and physics dictate that all matter expands when heated.. Ain't no getting around that. Although the dense inner layer is rated for continuous exposure to 2,200ºf it will expand starting at about 800-1,000ºf. As it expands it creates small hairline fractures. These fractures close when the cooker cools and are only in one of two layers but never the less cause concern with customers who have seen their one layer ceramic cookers crumble from this. My solution to this inevitable expansion is to build into my Komodo a small expansion joint. When heated to high temperatures the body expands and the small joints move and then move back. No harm, no foul.. Another Komodo first..

Am I supposed to leave all that.. Hey guys, didn't this start with a great post from Marco being in Que Heaven... Ah how topics wander... "Dogs look up to us, cats look down on us, but pigs..... pigs treat us as equals" Winston Churchill -
Re: What size is it supposed to be? Good Question.. My QC gals could only eyeball them as we don't have a female connector. That's why I said, I need to go to ACE Hardware.. (any excuse will do..I love hardware stores;) and get a hose from their Webber display.. This is a long Holiday weekend, one of 12 "paid holidays" per year here. so I can't go check right away.. I'll get to the bottom of the mystery thread sizes and post the information. Maybe someone over there Stateside can find a source for a proper fitting and I won't have to machine them.. Just another bump in the road to building a better KK... Thanks for your help as always

They were machined.. Those brass L fittings were made up by a machine shop here.. I've sold enough that I know that the first batch must have been ok. But I don't have a hose and they might have Fçµk?d it up... I'll run over to ACE hardware and buy a US bottle and hose. I'm sorry to have run you all over town..

Thanks for the Kudos.. The side table SS folding assembly is finished and being produced for sale. The actual removable teak and high density polyethylene table inserts are not finalized. They need to be installed before I can give you the circumference. Soon very soon.. Thanks for the Kudos..

Smoke on the lid/handle area...normal?
DennisLinkletter replied to Fish Taco's topic in Komodo General
Re: Smoke on the lid/handle area...normal? Hi Bob, I'll take a some photos showing how to adjust your latch. The gaskets can get compressed during transit, especially if Customs pulls out the black foam rubber we put inside the handle. I'll walk you thru the adjustment. But there can be leaks on some of the earlier cookers but we have a couple of ways to eliminate them.. All of the new cookers are smoke tested and adjusted in the factory before shipping.. As problems arise, we find solutions.. I'm sorry your cooker is leaking.. -
Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you will enjoy the fun and sometimes wacky world of the Komodo forum. Have no fear of any hard hitting sensors here and feel free to talk about other ceramics and their features as this is a completely open ceramic forum. We're happy to discuss the merits of all ceramics.. BGE's, Primo's and even Mexi K's. With 1,450 posts on ceramic forums your wealth of knowledge and expertise is invaluable. I look forward to your input and perspective. So once again.. Welcome to the forum.

Unless we are smelting ore.. I've received a PM that I'm probably pushing about 200,000 to 300,000 btu with my burner at this setting. Basically pumping a low pressure burner with a high pressure gas regulator. All is fine till the flame goes out, then you have what would be a dangerous situation. They also said they would be scared as hell to pump that much gas into an enclosed space. We don't turn the burners up that high inside the Komodos.. Unless we are smelting ore.. (which voids your warranty;-) PLEASE NOTE, I DO NOT IN ANY WAY RECOMMEND USING YOUR BURNER THIS WAY... That was just so Firemonkey could see flame color and what's possible.. KIDS, MOMS AND DADS.. PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME..

This can easily bury the needle I have these burners on a large LPG tank with a adjustable volume regulator. My guess is that the pressure on all LPG tanks are the same. Here it is turned up real high. This can easily bury the needle on the 800º TelTru, maybe 1,000º or more. Now that's cookin' with GAS!

Cosmetic white alumina cement in your thermometer hole.. Last thing done before packing the cooker is a quick whitewash inside to cover the smoke test and workers dirty finger/hand prints. That must be the culprit. Thanks for the feedback. Clean out and check out the thermometer hole.. One more thing to put on the checklist before they are packed up and sent off and away..

10,000 Posts in a little more than one year.
DennisLinkletter replied to DennisLinkletter's topic in Komodo General
I did of course! You don't think I'd fall asleep at the wheel and let Curley or DJ hit the big one... -
Bury the needle way past 800º With no modification at all, I can bury the needle way past 800º with a regulator on a LPG tank. I did not pay much attention to the flame quality or color but will check it out on Tuesday, Monday is a national holiday.

Thank you all for your help reaching this milestone of 10,000 Posts. I can still remember my excitement when the forum hit 500 posts. I had never been a regular member of a forum before and am enjoying it immensely. Thanks again..

In this cat and mouse game of building the best ceramic possible, problems are of the utmost importance as without them, I would not come up with solutions. Pre Drying removes the bulk moisture from the body. But I still get reports of venting albeit minor and small fissures in the grout. Although this is typical for this material, I don't want my customers to have to deal with any of this. My solution to this problem is to pre-dry, pre-smoke to test for leaks and now pre-heat to over 800º. We heat them on a 10 hour schedule. This ensures that your cookers is truly ready to go when it arrives at your door. And will be trouble free as possible. One more reason to buy a Komodo..

Better yet.. Shafts on me.. I just received your Email that I have not billed you for the EZQ kit yet.. Don't you hate that.. Always irritates me off when companies ship stuff and don't even have the courtesy to send me a bill.. As I said, I'm sorry for the frustration and the need to go out and get them cut. This set's on me.. No Charge..
-
I'm bummed to say the least. Argh.. I could tell you a story about different batches of shafts but the bottom line is that we dropped the ball and sent you out the wrong ones, for this I apologize. Yours was our last set of shafts we had, I'm happy to cover any expenses to get them cut down. Once again, sorry for your chicken.. How did the non-Roti bird turn out?

Re: Latch Adjustment/ Temp Control You should always press down firmly on the handle when latching or unlatching your cooker.. I completely close down the top and then open as little as possible. At this adjustment the damper top can barely rock either side to side or forward to rear a little bit. (The oversized acme threads permit this movement.) At this point, if you hold your hands over the top you can feel the heat escaping.. if your smoking this is easy to see in a low late afternoon light. Now make the lower adjustment just a sliver. I can set my OTB at 175-180 this way.. As long as you can feel heat escaping up top, your coals will continue to burn... I make minor adjustments down below.

Delivery Day Tips.. Hate to be the bearer of less than good news but your cooker's crate is pre- easy open crate, so the strength needed to protect it will work a bit against you while opening it up... I always suggest not breaking your back to remove the cardboard that protects your firebox. Just burn it.. The countdown to delivery is absolutely the most frustrating part of purchasing a Komodo.. I'm sure your feeling like a kid the day before Christmas.

If I can't do it better... In business I believe and adhere to the adage, if you can't do it better, why do it at all. With Charcoal the three factors are Price, Quality and Availability. Probably in that order for most. I've decided to try to target customers wanting the best quality competitively priced. One of the ways I will be doing this is to use vacuum bagging. This will dramatically reduce the deterioration/breakage from handling and ensure your charcoal arrives dry. This also makes the bags rock hard and easier to handle. Although I'm sure that there are some die hards who need supplies now, inquiries to purchase cookers are still very slow leading me to believe now is not the best time to send the charcoal. I think mid to late spring is the best time to send it and not have to pay too much storing it. Please chime in if you think this is not so. My plans are to ship extruded KoKonut charcoal, tamarind and mangrove charcoal. I'd like to get feedback about the preferred size of the bags or boxes. Of course bigger is better for me..

Re: Temporary Incompetence? Is that the resort hotel hardwood floor contract? Is that nearing completion or is that a multi-year endeavor? I'm wrapping up the Four Seasons Hotel project in the next 2-3 months. This new one is for 1,500 teak doors and jams, +- 95,000sq' of wide plank flooring plus molding and mantles. The project is in Bend, OR. I'll ship 75 doors and 5-6,000sq' of flooring every 3-4 weeks for almost 2 years. Good customer.. Great job..

Temporary Incompetence? Argh say it isn't so... I've located your mail.. and yes it was marked read... No excuse there and no flag was assigned to it for me to reply... so that two times I dropped the ball on your email.. Can I just plead for a reduced sentence because of temporary incompetence? I've sent it out.. I've had my BIG $$ customer here for a week.. Gotta do a lot of hand holding to make him feel important. It's a 25 container order.. (more $$ for Komodo R&D Shouting out a big Sorry to the K folks for the recent reduction in attention here on the forum and in the mail department.. He's gone.. I'm back!
