  1. Will do ckreef. I like to do an overhead shot of a full plate because sometimes the depth of field is so shallow on these close ups. But you're correct that is gives the food more of a 3d effect with modeling light and all the other fun photography goodies when taken at an angle. I used to be a wedding photographer 40 years ago. Fun and frightening.
  2. Thanks mucho everyone. It was very tasty. Of course, it'll be a lot better on the Komodo.
  3. That 6% beer can be a killer. Several versions of it now. Sorry you lost your Aug photos.
  4. You guys are nutz. I guess that's why I fit right in. It's about 130 feet from where the truck will park to my shop. I plan to tip him and up the tip if he refuses.
  5. Tiny, I could go for that in a New York second. Looks delicious!
  6. Thanks for the tip, wilburpan, that should work. I had planned to double stack the OSB for the ramp, but 2x4s would be extra reinforcement. Robert, it's possible to butt it up against the slab if I can get the dude to use the pallet jack all the way to the shop. The unknown is if there would be a difference between the pallet hight and the slab hight. If I keep the pallet a small distance away, the lid/ramp of the pallet might be a slight incline or decline, but should still be doable. These delivery guys are only required to get packages and crates off the truck and out of the street and "to" your house. Anything else is a bonus. That pallet jack is worth its weight in gold for something like this. In a worst case scenario, I'll uncrate it in my driveway and roll the Komodo itself to a homemade ramp by the shop.
  7. That's a perfect breakfast or supper too. You've got me wanting to smoke a pork belly now.
  8. Great photo of a juicy looking brisket. Keep 'em coming and welcome to the forum.
  9. And.....it's official! The Bronze beauty is on a truck heading this way...all 888 pounds of it! I should have it sometime next week. I'm guessing by Thursday at the latest. In the meantime, I have a CyberQ heading this way. Too bad I don't any cash left for meat.
  10. OK, this isn't on a Komodo, but mine is on the way. This is just a practice for posting food shots. The meal was cooked on a Weber 26" kettle. First is the tuna marinating and waiting to get thrown on the grill. Then he's resting on a 350 degree grate. And a few minutes later... And now on a plate with side dishes. This is as well done as I like tuna. I'm sure others cook it more. As you can see in the "money shot", I posed it on some of my fine china that comes 150 to a package. Thanks for viewing!
  11. Yep, I've given plenty of thought about moving that sucker to it's final resting place. I plan to grease the delivery dude's palm to help me get it into my shop. I appreciate you filling me in about OSB too. Picking that up today. If we can get it over the 4-5" slab, I've got it made. I can uncrate it and do the rest in the shop. Ordering the DigiQ or CyberQ today. Still undecided on that one.
  12. That's a nice lean pork belly you're smoking. I'll bet it taste great for breakfast tomorrow. Don't share with the skeeters.
  13. Thanks for all the info and encouragement. Wilburpan, I read your story when I first joined up here. Really amazing what happened and all the delays. bryan, I'm doing a good job of waiting. ckreef, my Komodo arrived on the July 30th at the port. So I had some pretty lucky timing on it. The good news is that I along with Pale Rider was notified today that our Komodo's will most likely be on their way to our homes by tomorrow. I'm super excited about this information. Won't be long before I'll be posting some cooks on here. Probably not the magazine quality some of you talented people have, but hopefully not too bad.
  14. Way to go, Pale Rider. I received my email today too about it being shipped out soon. I know you're as pumped as I am!
  15. Anyone a major Beatle fan here? I was around 7 or 8 when they first appeared on Ed Sullivan and have been a fan ever since. I've seen McCartney perform several times and enjoyed them all. Great group that were ahead of their time.
  16. High today is 100 with a heat index of 108 to 113. Pretty warm. I had to look up Ginger Kombucha...looks yummy.
  17. The apple cider vinegar will add a dose of potassium to the body. Helps to digest protein (i.e. BBQ'd meat) better too. But in extreme cases, read up on heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially during this killer hot summer. Heat exhaustion can be helped by going indoors and rehydrating. You are sweating profusely, may feel dizzy or irritable, and you need to drink plenty liquids. Heat stroke follows is you don't take care of heat exhaustion. You're skin is not "wet" anymore and you are disoriented because your body temperature is hovering around 105 or higher. While waiting for an ambulance, being submerged in a cool tub of water to bring down the body temperature. Sorry to say, but alcohol makes your condition worse. Coffee too. Not be gross, but if your urine is a much darker color than usual, you are in the process of dehydrating. Plenty of water and cooling down will get you good as new at this stage. Don't let it get serious.

    new guy

Welcome Bosco. I'm fairly new here too but these guys will make you feel at home right away.
  19. I clicked on your photo and it was the size of a real plate of food in front of me. That's a heck of a good looking meal. Myron Mixon's favorite smoking wood is peach. You're in good company.
  20. It's hard to imagine enough smoke billowing out of the place to affect more than one homeowner. Maybe the others just don't like the smell of BBQ. That can linger for half a block. As my old Grandpa used to say; some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope.
  21. MacKenzie, you must have the neighbors lined up to sample your cooking. I've never heard of galette, but it sure looks yummy. The bread looks delicious too. Another success story for you.
  22. Thank you skreef. Patiently waiting to hear the word as we speak. I can only clean up and rearrange the area so many times waiting for it to arrive.
  23. I love everything about them except the corn. I love fresh sweet corn, but niblet style doesn't help the cause. I might have subbed jalapenos or onions for the corn but different strokes and all that. I still would have eaten 2.
  24. That's a winner too. Nice and colorful with gooey cheese.
