  1. Very cool Porkchop, congratulations! I recently found an old spreadsheet I kept from when I did Atkins back in 1999/2000. I am currently at my lowest weight since then and also the lowest weight I ever achieved on that diet. Trouble with that for me was that if you go off it, you're... um, dooomed. hehe. The new diet (the YOU diet) is much much easier for me. It's essentially just eating whole grains, fruits, nuts, veges, and lean meats. Eliminating refined sugars/flours and replacing saturated with unsaturated fats. Veddy simple, veddy easy. For fun you might wanna try the questionaire at www.realage.com. Just a series of questions about diet, exercise, and lifestyle that calculates your "real" age versus your physical age. Amusing, if not wholly scientific. So now I'm eating chicken/fish quite often, red meat only occasionally. It's not eliminated, just reduced. It's really a freakish diet for me because one of the things is to snack between meals... so you're eating like 6 times a day... I literally feel like I'm always eating and I'm never particulary hungry for any meal... and yet the weight just falls off. I say this now of course... check back with me in 6-12 months. hehe. But dang... so far so good. I'm going to need a new wardrobe. Sure feels great, doesn't it?
  2. Oh no That's terrible. Sorry to hear that. Hope he's doin' alright.
  3. Actually I did snag your recipe... just have to convert it to 100% whole wheat, NF milk, and reduce/eliminate the sugar and I think it'll work out aight.
  4. Yeah, pretty much! I got a thorough talking to by my doctor... oh, a year or so ago. And since I'm not interested in experiencing Type 2 Diabetes first hand and want to see my kids grow up, I decided to take action. I think the epiphany came one night when I was eating a tray of oreos while watching "Biggest Loser". Hehe. Irony. The diet is amazing and easy and working... 40lbs down since October. Wish I could say I was halfway there. Almost, anyway. But it's easy and I am eating very well indeed. Just need to get more Q'ing into the diet.
  5. Hey y'all, I haven't completely fallen off the planet. I'm still adjusting to a new diet and trying to find ways to fit some Q into it. In this case, if was a complete, delicious success... a little Tandoori chicken with Curried Peas & Tofu and Black Lentil curry. Yum! And before you gag on the tofu... it's really in there as a contrast to the spice and works well for that purpose. Hehe. Marinating (without food coloring) Hot n spicy curry Dinner is served!

  10. Merry Holidays Likewise to all. Unlike Deej, who is busy stealing all the presents from the little whos in Whoseville, I am off in TX having the annual xmas reunion kinda thing. Hope y'all are having as much fun as I. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and all that is good. --Mike

    Hummous

Hehehe. Yes, don't anger the Drunk_Z... But do take note: this is the "Sides" topic... and I did imply that Pita is to be warmed on a KK... so cut me some slack, eh? Besides, when I finally get a KK and rotisserie, and post my Gyros recipe... this will become a vital side dish. Incidentally, I think Drunk_Z will now allow recipe commentary, as long as the original post is in the specified format... so we're all good. I think.

    Hummous

Ingredients -1 15oz can Chick peas (garbanzo beans) -3 to 6 Tb tahini (ground sesame paste) [i use 5] -3 to 6 cloves garlic [i use 4] -Juice from 1 lemon (about 2 or 3 Tb) -2 Tb olive oil -salt to taste [i use about 1/2 tsp] -pepper/chili powder to taste [i use about 1 tsp each] Preparation Instructions Drain chick peas leaving about 25% of the liquid. Throw into food processor or blender. Add all other ingredients and blend until a "bean dip" texture is achieved. Serve with Pita Bread (which has been warmed in your Komodo Kamado, and cut into wedges) Some folks blend in other ingredients: green onions, parsley, chile peppers, sun dried tomatoes, or whatever. This is simple and fantastic and tastes better than any hummous you can buy at the store (or is it Hummus? I've seen it both ways...).
