ckreef
After accidentally leaving my MAPP torch down at my sister's house on July 4th vacation, it finally arrived back on my doorstep yesterday morning. You just don't realize how easy and fast a MAPP torch is until you have to go back to alcohol and cotton balls for a month. I promptly went out and bought a new MAPP bottle yesterday - yay me - LOL

Syzygies
Yes, Jiarby (whom I haven't heard from in a while) is a professional competitor who lights his fires with something like that. That Arnold movie "Commando" comes to mind.
DaveyR
I use a flame weeder but they have just changed their design where the mixer valve is now down in the output rather than at the top which makes it a bit less useful. Red Dragon mini weeder is what it is called i think.
Nanuk
Captvideo and bryan, Will that harborfire work with the small portable tanks or it needs a larger one?
bryan
Captvideo and bryan, Will that harborfire work with the small portable tanks or it needs a larger one? Harbor Freight works on 20# tank. There are 2 sizes. Alas 2 prices. I have the large. ($29.99 + S&H) Keeps me out of KK. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=weed+burner

Poochie
You could light the neighbor's pit with one of those. Might be a little overkill.

Nanuk
Ok, so should I light at different spots or just one? First Kamado, so will the coal take a lot to burn? Thanks
5698k
It depends on what temperature you're going for. For 225°-275°ish, one spot, 300°-400°, two, and so on. It's also the type of thing you'll get used to, but it's a start. Robert
egmiii
My habits destroyed my off-brand K7. I'm not sure Dennis would encourage my habits with a KK, but yes it still looks close to new. I know the K7 has a long history of falling apart, but why do you think your cleaning routine destroyed it? Dennis, I can't see how a KK would be damaged by this usage pattern, but maybe I'm missing something. Thoughts?
