  1. It is a miserable cold wet day so I thought I'd light my fire with this breakfast. The brownbread toast is dripping with local maple syrup, roasted shishio peppers, and KK bacon. Now for a double espresso.

  2. Either way you are going to be a very happy person when you see your new KK in real life. They are not only wonderful grills they are works of art. Welcome to the KK forum.

  5. Standard questions would be.. Did you start with a full basket? DId you shake out your ash from the last cook before the cook? Did you pour the smalls from the bottom of the bag into the basket? Could the charcoal be damp? Was there a breeze before but not after? Wind blowing directly into the grill's face can artificially boost temps. What might have reduced your airflow? Did you make any setting changes before you left?

  8. I’m glad my daughter was home. When she sent me a picture of the grill and blue dot temperature I headed home. When I got home the meat temp was 151. I started the fire back up and kept on cooking. The pork butt turned out really good.

  9. I like using my Guru on really long cooks, just for the piece of mind, especially if I have to leave the house for a while. While it's not foolproof, it might have saved your cook.

  15. Wheels are the best consideration as Tekebo made mention of for future, and present considerations for ease of movement . Anything on wheels is the way to go especially with a removable top to make the transition easier. It is easier to roll into a designated area as opposed to lifting into an area that wasn't planned. What's your plan, the look of a built in is the flat bottom KK and is generally shelved, that leaves you with dimensions you have to account for or, otherwise choose the wheels. If I were to choose to move my 23 to the another location well, I'm on wheels and ready to go, done.

  17. Now look what you made me do. I was staying in an Airbnb when I wrote the message above and at about 1am I gave up the fight and got up to make myself a mid-night snack. Fried up some bacon and an egg and, in so doing, set off the smoke alarm. Turns out the alarm also rang in the main house and caused a panic until my host sleepily read my hasty message telling her to ignore my sneaky snack. No more midnight forum forays for me.

  18. I think you should go with what you think will look best. Another consideration is whether you expect to move house. It may be easier to take your KK with you if it is not built into your ODK. Either way, have fun choosing and make sure you have room for a second when you realise how much you love cooking on the KK.

  19. Really up to you as to which look you prefer. One bit of advice: Don't bother with the gas burner. It is intended to pre-heat the inside on a cold winter day. Almost nobody buys one. I think Dennis has even stopped building grills with the gas burner door unless specifically requested.

  20. I picked up 3 bags of Lumber Jack pellets on Mon. and just now had a chance to try the Cherry. It is still burning after 2 hours on the first and only lighting. Works so much better than anything else I've tried. Picked up cherry, apple and hickory. Smoking some cheddar cheese using the cherry just to see how it goes. Thanks to everyone who recommended this brand. [emoji4] Cheese is just on the KK and reading to absorb some of that cherry smoke. After 2 hours of cherry smoke- There will be no tasting for weeks if not months while the smoke mellows. Just took the smoker and set it on the grill and closed up the KK. Later when the pellets are out I will clean it up.
