There has been some speculation about the capacity of a K7 vs an OTB shape. Here is a cardboard circle 22.5" diameter (that's the size I was told by a K7 owner) representing the 7's main grille under an OTB main grill. Looks like capacity is certainly no reason get a 7, I guess you may be able to fit 3 more ATB's on there.

FM, Sounds like it could be a great help in some cases, however, I suspect that the kind of weight being supported it would be beyond the task of most adjustable casters. You would be putting a huge lateral load on the adjusting bolt (typical adjustable caster) when the grill was moved. Perhaps there are some real heavy duty adjust-ables out there......

Saucy, Sorry to hear that. I think the key is to keep the looking to a minimum. I don't know that it is prudent (and you found out) to NEVER take a peak.... I was afraid I would be looking all the time, like I did with the Weber ('cause ya never really knew ) but I have shown great restraint! Was the Guru cranking the whole time? Didn't your dome temp get pretty high? Seems like there may have been some signs that something was wrong. When mine gets stabilized in the low 200's the fan only puffs a split second every half minute or so.

I don't think anyone has gotten to that point yet. The burner is quite a heavy-duty cast unit that should last for a long time. When you consider that it is only burning for a few minutes to light the charcoal, it doesn't get a lot of use.

Looks good Saucy. Some people like to put their butt over the brisket and have it baste the brisket. Haven't tried it myself, perhaps some day. Only one brisket under my belt to date.

Exactly, I don't understand why Paul is seeing the reverse.

I built a cyclone for my collection system also. I built the Wood Magazine version and then modified it per Bill Pentz instructions (5hp motor, 6" inlet etc.) I have 6" furnace duct to all machines It's a great system but it cost a fair bit more that $35.

Paul, I wouldn't be surprised to see a difference, but usually the dome will read higher than the grill temp (I'm assuming an indirect setup). Did you reverse your numbers?

No problem, happy to help. Also, it's pretty easy to change/control the temps that high also, most of the heat above 400 -500 is from the active flame. When you shut it down it will settle down around 500 or so from residual heat.

Hmm, I'm sure I have counted, but don't recall. I'm going to say around 4 or 5 turns. I would have an opening around 1" high (the "top hat" would be 1" above the lid) In these instances it takes a larger change in settings to affect the temp. I would probably be moving the top hat a half turn at a time to fine tune the temp at those numbers.

I think any time more than that quoted by Amphoran would be more a function of getting a "shipment" together than actually making the color you want. I can't imagine any scenario that would exceed 2 months. Look at the stock pictures, you can see all kinds/colors in various states of production in the background. The pipeline appears to be populated, business appears to be brisk!! Pick a color and pull the trigger, if you are like me, you can lurk and ponder, then when I decide, I want it the same day! I think a stock unit could be to most any US destination within 1 week! The other times (6 - 9 months) that would be some other company.

I feel your pain I had a similar experience on my first L&S also. The hardest thing for me to learn was how little you need to adjust at those low temps to get a large temp change. When it us getting such a small amount of oxygen to burn that low a small change in airflow is a relatively large percentage swing in oxygen. Move it 1/16" (or less) at a time and wait..... I ordered my Guru the day after my first L&S. It's a sleep aid!!

Nice Nice shop, looks exactly like mine. Well, yours is cleaner, better organized, larger, better lit, and has more tools, other than that.... I'd think it was my own!!

Curly, I don't know what kind of tools you are referring to, but if it includes chisels and plane blades, do a search for "scary sharp". It's a simple and very effective system using a series of sandpaper grits.
