Take the picture from a little ways back. Then put it through an editor and do a crop. Most right angle crop tools start out square (although you can stretch it into a rectangle). Set the square on what you want, hit the go button then the save button.

• Instagram square size recommended: 1080px x 1080px but you should upload the image at the max resolution allowed, 2048px x 2048px.
• Instagram landscape dimensions recommended: 1080px x 566px. ...
• Instagram portrait size recommended: 1080px x 1350px.

I'll try taking square photos with the iPhone and see if that meets the criteria.
