Pequod
Was thinking about buying some pellets for my cold smoker. Not being a pellet-head, I have no idea what brands are good or where to get small quantities of pellets at a reasonable price. Any suggestions? Carolina Que
Here is a link to a pellet smoking site. They have a full selection of numerous flavors. http://www.amazenproducts.com/category_s/62.htm
tony b
I've used Amazen. They're good. Can get them at the local BBQ shop. I have several friends that have these pellet grills, so I'd assume that they know what they're doing for pellets - https://greenmountaingrills.com/#pellets
Pequod
Anyone used these? They're much cheaper for smaller quantities than the others. Supposedly higher quality (per folks at Amazing Ribs) too. https://cookinpellets.com/product/1ea-3-lbs-sample-bag-of-perfect-mix-100-hickory-and-apple-mash/
tony b
Nope. But if Meathead says they're good, then there yah go!
Pequod
Ordered the cookin pellets sample pack, so will find out soon. Decent price at $16.50 for 9 lbs of pellets and free shipping.

I have found them on amazon.co.uk and they are indeed much cheaper than the A-maze-n pellets which I have also been able to find here. Any advice gratefully received as I prepare to use my new hot/cold smoker.

MacKenzie
I think there is a dealer within 50 miles of me, so I'll try and get some of these pellets. Thanks for the info.
Pequod
Have heard Lumberjack is great stuff. Do they sell it in smaller packs? Don’t particularly need a 20 lb sack of pellets for the cold smoker.
Bruce Pearson
Mac is that right after you finish staining the deck planting the garden and feeding the critters just before making dinner? Lol you are my hero

Per their website, it only comes in 20# and 40# bags.
tekobo
Thanks for all the tips. Working my may through the options here in the UK. Lumberjack - 3 No 20 lb bags at £39.69 seems to be best value. This source only has beech and pecan. https://shop.americanbbq.co.uk/bbq-pellets-26-c.asp A-maze-n - lots of variety and bags sized from 2 lb at £6.95 or 5 lb at £11.95 - £13.95 https://www.bbqgourmet.co.uk/smoking--wood-pellets-99-c.asp Traeger - 1 No 20 lb bag at £17.99 and lots of variety - apple, cherry, hickory, maple etc https://abell.co.uk/search?q=traeger+pellets&Search= Seem to be spoilt for choice here. From what you guys have said and what I have been able to read, Lumberjack seems like a good option even though the variety is limited.

Reach out to the store and ask if they can get in some of the other woods, in particular some of the fruit woods. They might be able to order you some.
