  2. Hi my name is Dave and I'm an addict. From top left, Miso-shiru Nabe Soup & Stew Donabe Iga-Yu Classic-style All-purpose Donabe Kamado-san Double-Lid Donabe Rice Cooker Ibushi Gin Donabe Smoker I too love the rice cooker. On the other coast from my Komodo Kamado, the smoker is surprising fun, if infrequently used. I prefer the soup and stew donabe to the all-purpose donabe for general use; it is rated for more heat abuse. The only donabe that can't be heated "empty" is the all-purpose donabe, but a bit of oil and garlic or whatever counts as "not empty". I also own a donabe tagine (not shown) but I find it impractical. Just use a soup and stew donabe. Next shelf down is a set of La Chamba pots (great value, use all the time for beans), a Wolfgang Mock grain mill for making pasta, bread from home-ground flour, a pasta pot, and an aging single-slot European toaster for which I can't find a replacement. The shelves are stair treads. The hanging baskets are great when citrus is in season, for fresh-squeezed juice. This year the selection has been poor.

  6. Why did you all have to bring this post back up? I had forgotten all about it. This kind of cookware is right up my alley.

  7. I had some previously KKed meatballs that needed to be eaten so let's make Cacio e Pepe. Used home ground flour to make whole wheat pasta and off we go. You can't really see it in this pix but there is a full teaspoon of Burlap & Barrel Zanzibar pepper on this plate. It was awesome, perfect amount of pepper for a hot feel in the mouth but not too hot.

  13. I haven't been sent to Dennis' profile yet. But I did just get the error message after posting multiple replies and "likes." The frustrating part is that you can't readily get back into the Forum to try the log out/log in "fix." It finally let me back in and the 1st thing I did was log out and back in. Fingers crossed, it hasn't hiccupped yet!

  14. I am very happy to learn from your addiction Dave. I did a lot of research a few months ago and the two I was planning to buy were the rice cooker and the soup and stew pot. You confirming that they are your "go to" donabes leaves me free to indulge in a Miso-shiru when I do come to pull the trigger on a second donabe. Validation. Hurrah.

  17. Wish me luck. This is something similar to what some pizza restaurants do. I'm just trying to make it easier at the time of cooking. 3 or 4 pizzas on the fly not to big of an issue. If you're going for 8-12 a much bigger issue. Besides I want to enjoy the time not working for everyone's benefit.

  20. Being my lazy self I left my rotisserie Motor (one grill 4pm05) permanently attached to the KK since the day I got it maybe 1 1/2 years ago. I've used it frequently during that time. It eventually started making noises which (being my lazy self) I ignored. Well the other week I went to do a rotisserie chicken and the motor wouldn't turn - big bummer. With nothing to loose I took it apart tonight. Immediately a mud dobbers nest fell out - hmmmmm. I took the motor spindle out and it was a little (very little) chewed up. I'm guessing my upper and/or lower motor spindle bearings started going bad with caused it to get a little chewed up. Not to be discouraged I broke out a metal file and smoothed things back up. I gave it a good cleaning and applied a little light machine oil to one area (seemed like it needed it). Anyway back together again and we are once again in business. Rotisserie chicken coming this weekend. Two lessons for other people. 1) don't be lazy like me. 2) if it dies out of warranty don't throw it away there maybe hope for it after all. And no I still haven't learned lesson # 1. It's back in it's rightful place installed on the 19" KK.
