  1. Welcome to KKUK benobas. Whenever I go near a garden centre or BBQ place, I idly have a look at what they have and whenever I see a Green Egg or Kamado Joe, they're really primitive and crude in comparison. I invariably remark 'why would anyone spend so much on one of these'. My wife then comments that you could buy a very good brand new car for the price of the 32" and 19" which we have. I then remark on what a wonderful wife she is before she starts on my other expensive habits. She loves them and while she questioned my sanity with the first, when she saw it, she was impressed. Out of interest, what part of the UK are you in? Watch out for that @tekobo though. Real trouble. 😘 Got a message from her this week and I now find myself buying half a cow and giving direction on cuts via text message. I had to mention this to my wife who mentioned what she has to put up with being married to me to her colleagues who I gather overhead the conversation we were having about it. Apparently I'm now called 'BBQ cow guy'. I've been called worse. If I can aid and abet or offer recommendations and advice on UK suppliers or anything, hit me up.

  2. We had an unseasonably warm day today (52F), which demanded dinner be grilled out. I actually cooked dinner comfortably in shirt sleeves! Dinner was a chicken breast with shawarma seasoning, curried rice and steamed broccoli.

  3. Fat Daddios pots from amazon are perfect for pot in pot and they have one that is 7" x5" tall as opposed to all the other stackable ones which are 4". Let's you cook a little more.

  4. This thing is fantastic. When you do pot in pot cooking, it keeps the inner pot off the heating element. You can place meat, corn on the cob, potatoes and all sorts of stuff on top of it as well. The honeycomb is perfectly sized to do boiled eggs, a superb use of the pressure cooker. If you are unaware of pot in pot cooking, look it up on you tube. You need it for things that don't have a lot of water that otherwise would scorch if they were in contact with the bottom of the pot, which sits right on top of the heating element. Lasagna, for example does great with pot in pot. https://www.amazon.com/OXO-11249500-Pressure-Cooker-Bakeware/dp/B07G418RSL/ref=sxin_3_osp32-db7bb984_cov?ascsubtag=db7bb984-be3c-4ff0-bbfd-ac7df9c95a4a&creativeASIN=B07G418RSL&cv_ct_id=amzn1.osp.db7bb984-be3c-4ff0-bbfd-ac7df9c95a4a&cv_ct_pg=search&cv_ct_wn=osp-search&keywords=pressure+cooker+trivet&linkCode=oas&pd_rd_i=B07G418RSL&pd_rd_r=ddb373d3-560b-4dc7-99f8-5a762d81eba5&pd_rd_w=d2vX5&pd_rd_wg=Z4eDY&pf_rd_p=53eff971-6e12-4016-9864-b6dfd929b2b3&pf_rd_r=YW72FDEANYJMD4TTCJ8Q&qid=1575593707&tag=thesprucepublish-20

  8. First off. What is with that new profile photo of yours @Pequod? Worried about the amount of chest hair on show on a family forum! When I talk about a fraction of cow I am talking in quarters and halves here. i am picking up my forequarter of Dexter in the morning having, finally, fessed up to The Husband about the purchase on the same day as I also agreed on the delivery date for the hindquarter of a dairy cow. We will be eating beef three ways and more for quite a while. I will take a look at @Braai-Q's haul while I am there but his will be going by courier next week. I am hoping he likes it!!!

  10. That's the name of the game! It's great to be able to share local advice and where else but on the KK forum would you meet someone who would say "yes" to a random incoming email asking if they would like a (big) fraction of a cow?

  12. PLEASE everyone, stay away from the Cowboy - it's just scrap lumber - terrible charcoal. Don't be swayed by the low price - you get what you pay for as they say. In this case, it's very true! Royal Oak is decent. Use it if it's the only thing you can get your hands on. I like Rockwood and Fogo for my everyday charcoals. I can get Rockwood locally and Fogo shipping is not bad. I'm particularly fond of their QUEBRACHO and EUCALYPTUS lumps. I actually don't like their Super Premium - the lumps are just too damn big and I have to spend time breaking them up with a mallet and screwdriver.

  13. Many here use Fogo. The great benefit of coco char is that it imparts no smoke flavor of its own, leaving you a clean profile on which to add smoke wood. Fogo is not “clean” like coco char, but it tends to be a bit less noxious than cheap lumps like Cowboy and Royal Oak.

  14. Mine came with this one and I just set the sweet potato on it. I put in about 1.25 C of water which stays just under this insert. You can also use one of these.

  16. I took Sygyzies' advice and cooked a sweet potatoe in a pressure cooker. I thought I eat half and have the other half tomorrow, but no such luck, it just tasted so good I ate the whole thing. I did put ghee and black pepper on the potatoe. Beets from this summer's garden and KK chicken thighs as sides.

  17. Same story here. How did you know?? Just got home from buying ingredients at the local homebrew store, then stopped and had a couple of pints at a local brewpub. OK, let's make this official - Welcome to the Obsession, benobas!

  19. Those floor boards were a hazard, tell the wife you were lucky to expose them and had saved the family from a disaster waiting to happen. It's a great hobby and pastime that all enjoy the benefits of. Don't forget to keep it covered in that British weather you have or maybe you can use those old floor boards and incorporate them into this.

  20. Sorry, no fancy or pretty pics here, as I suck at taking pics. But it still tasted great. And probably the first time in 5 years since I've used my pressure cooker. Still working fantastic.
