  1. Just wanted to share this. Celebrating a birthday with some friends in a place called Rainbow Beach. Population about 1200 people, and beaches like this. It’s south from a world heritage park called Fraser Island. A really beautiful place to visit. The sand here is so fine and when placed in a tall jar with water, it settles in the colours of a rainbow. Although we don’t get snow in our part of the world, Mac, Jon, I do like seeing your photos and try to imagine how different that must be to what I am experiencing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. Basher, it's a world of difference. It looks so beautiful especially after a long winter. It even snowed last night and the ploughs were out.

  7. With the cover on it's 2 1/2 in ht x 4 1/2 in dia. It is a small pot that works for some time, you can control that by the amount and the pot is on Amazon.

  8. All I want to know is....Did you bring your knives rolled up in the leather? Reminded me of Crocodile Dundee saying, "Now this is a knife." You really have it well Basher, beautiful beaches and weather to compliment. We have some nice beaches also, but because of the cold and wind they aren't so inviting once the leaves start to fall. We know they're right where we left them and although we can't frequent them as often I find the return trip more than my small cup can hold. Nice photo, thought it was a painting at first. You better hurry back.........all the neighbors know your gone and they're in the pool.

  10. That's very nice, but at my house it would be a constant struggle to keep the wasp, mud dauber, and birds nests out of it!

  12. Yes. I originally was planning to "take one for the team" and also buy the best (not Mexican, but tuned for masa) hand mill. I do have two kitchens. The wet grinder worked well enough that I decided I was done. It does require tending. The wetter the mixture the less tending, but then you need to add more masa harina to compensate. And doneness isn't by the clock, presumably one could learn to spot when it's done, even 20 minutes in with effective tending, and bail. 40 minutes allows rather casual surveillance.

  13. All, I want to thank you for your input. I plan to give my power washer a try and to also do some shopping to look into some of the tray / tub suggestions on this post. All the best, Paul

  15. So as Tekobo would say I jumped down this rabbit hole today. I ordered to two cookbooks suggested above and the from Masienda I ordered the Nixtamal starter kit complete with tortilla press (along with white and blue masa flour). I decided to hold off on the Masa hand mill at this time. Tekobo, I understand that you ordered the Premier 1.5 liter table top wet grinder and look forward to your feedback. @Syzygies I believe from your original post that you already procured the Premier 1.5 liter wet grinder. Are you able to confirm that you are happy with this product? I'm excited to start making heirloom tortillas for many of my mexican dishes, masa for tamales and pozole from the heirloom corn! @syzygies .....thanks again for posting this information on the website. I also decided to look at the Rancho Gordo and find their Heirloom beans fascinating and I'm sure it won't be long before an order is placed for these as well! Cheers

  16. Thank you, Basher. You will find quite the flavour different when you do your own grains.

  18. Thank you rokdok. It’s only 9 months old and I am expecting greater depth and geometry with shaded pockets as the trees mature. There are two frangipani trees around the fire pit with an extremely strong fragrance- especially in the evenings that smell like an english garden rose. The other tree I’m excited about is a Tabebuia that will look like this from October to January. https://caretransplanters.com.au/index.php/sub-tropical-nursery/25-sub-tropical/flowering-exotics/168-tabebuia-palmeri Forrest if you want to learn some sustainable gardening tips, look up permaculture techniques. I think where you are based you will have predominantly sandy soils and your challenge will be soil improvements for water retention. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Fabulous garden @Basher, so lush. +1 for getting some design input - they come up with ideas that you'd never think of - once it's done it seems so obvious.

  20. Thanks Jon. The growing conditions for the garden over the last 3 weeks has been extraordinary. Warm and humid with soft rain every evening and the odd thunderstorm to load up the nitrogen. Here is the fire pit area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
