  1. HA! I bet I can guess where a copy of that picture is going...... Great Halloween setup! Great Job!! Go Halloween!!!
  2. Re: Welcome aboard Thomas Oh my, I drove past often; monthly. A8 from Hbg to Stgt to Mun to A95 to Garm-Part. Beautiful countryside!!! I had a camping trailer permanently parked in Garmish. Great area for the outdoor sportsman, skiing, hiking, rock climbing, rafting, parasailing, etc. Tschuse!
  3. Welcome aboard Thomas!!! Beautiful setting!!! Please invite your Deutsch fruends to join in the forum!!! We understand you speak American backwards, it's okay!! Only a joke. Will be fun sharing cooking methods/experiences. Buddy of mine just moved to Weisbaden from USA. Again, welcome aboard.
  4. I also do not use a heat deflector. I have however, stacked two stones. That was when the fire was too hot. Using one stone burned the crust underside (more than I like) before the top finished, so I added/stacked a second stone and eliminated the problem.
  5. Welcome aboard Thomas Where are you in Germany? I lived in Stuttgart, Worms, and Heidelberg between 1989 and 2002.
  6. Re: and the pile grows and grows.. The reason there were piles of them where you were diving is that there was a street vendor selling young coconuts in the shell as a drink and just tossed them aside.... and the pile grows and grows.. Ha! Talk about a wake up call!!! I never thought about that! No wonder the locals I was talking to (helping us haul our gear to the boats) looked so surprised when I told them we used it for making charcoal; they'd never heard of it but you could see the light bulb come on, they were probably the same ones who tossed it there.
  7. Great pics Dennis!!! I like the little green flying bug too!!!! I have to say I was quite impressed with your load of coal!!! Is that a typical load for you? I can honestly say I've never filled mine like that. Oh yes, Primeats! I know Hy-Vee. Not a typical shopping place but a good one, just a bit out of my way.
  8. I'm in the no foil club too!! I prefer a little tooth over fall off the bone. Too easy to fall off the bone in foil, IMHO. I use a sortof indirect method. No stone but a foil drip pan between fire and ribs, ribs bone side down. Sometimes I'll pour a beer into the pan.
  9. Re: Last post on this,....maybe
  10. Re: You can make charcoal from all of it but.. Accessing remote scuba diving sites on some islands I've walked on lots of shells. Having said that I was actually trying to be a little funny with my comment about the plentiful amount of coconut shells laying around the islands. But now you have me wondering Dennis, is that where they actually harvest the shells for charcoal, from coconuts that have fallen on the ground?
  11. Having done a few trips to the islands; appears there's lots of coconut shells to be had. Almost nuisance proportions. If shells laying on the ground are the same ones used for charcoal; I'd say there's plenty to go around.
  12. I usually have my gas after the food No wonder my ribs don't belong there.......
  13. I'm sorry Larry, I just can't help it..... I know there's eats I like no one else does; but ribs on a gasser....
  14. I just wanted to make note it's very easy and common mistake to overtighten the damper when shutting down. With the draft door closed tight it shouldn't require much pressure (IF ANY) between mating surfaces of the hat to stop the fire. I screw down only enough to where the surfaces barely touch. No force whatsoever.
  15. TraderRick, I use one very similar and am quite happy with it.
  16. What cooking method are you using? Yea right, like I'm an expert or something..... Direct or Indirect? I use indirect. Hopefully someone who knows will answer. Could be I finally got lucky; I've only used the weber method once. Was also my first time not selecting the brisket myself!!! SAM's didn't have full packer cuts on display, so I asked the butcher, he brought one up from the back. I accepted it. In the past I look/feel for floppy brisket, left side, etc.
  17. I've had the same problem!!! Until I tried Mguerra suggestion, high temp with foil method from the weber guys. Link: viewtopic.php?t=2961&start=60&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
  18. I do not foil ribs either. And agree with Condo12, ribs do not look quite finished enough for me either.... Look good though!!
  19. Careful using "Oven stone"; not all are equal. Trader, be careful using oven stone, unless you know the capabilities of what you have. I know of many broken Pampered Chef stones, including my own. Cheers.
  20. There you go...... thinkin' again...... We're not even sure it's edible yet!
  21. Re: And now for something completely different... That guy clearly has swine flu... Sooooo, would you take it to the Doctor or the Vet????
  22. Great pictures Dennis, and great looking dog. Sorry for your loss. I understand totally. I lost my best friend 20 years ago and still not sure if I'm over it.
