That's a lot of tar... I can't say I've ever heard of the type or volume of buildup your talking about. I'm guessing it's basically creosote and grease. The outside of my boiler in the factory is coated in thick tar from the oil in the teak we burn. I can't think of anything besides the ceramic gasket that would work. I'd start with a grease remover.. and then slowly step up to light solvents. When it's hot you might be able to remove some by adding some silica sand and scrubbing.. Maybe it will pick up some of the deposited material like you use kitty litter to pick up oil under cars.. Silicone can only handle about 520ºf so that's not going to work long term. Kudos on burning your first 2 tons of charcoal and half ton of wood your KK!

To foil or not to foil, that is the question

In this case does firm up mean dry out? In this case does firm up mean dry out (a bit) ? Just some hot airflow? Gasser eeh? Hot air gun might work too... -
There are now three different types of stainless and teak side tables. One has the same high end German CNC cut stainless as in the rear hinge and is folding. The slatted recycled teak table is also removable. These are available for both the new 3 bolt side side plates as well as the earlier two bolt side plates. The rotisserie motor can be used with them installed but they can't fold with the motor installed. $288 each / $576 pair + UPS ground. There is now a new rod in tube non-folding version with the same beautiful slatted recycled teak table. They are $180 each / $360 pair + UPS ground. Another new rod in tube non-folding version with a simple smaller slatted recycled teak table. They are $140 each UPS ground.

Killian My bestest friend for 14 years Happy Bday to you Dollly.. You got a great thing going.. give her a hug for me.. This is my Killian... She was the sweetest Akita ever. Never barked outside of play her whole life. Lost her in March after the best 14 years I could have asked for. When I went out or left town, she sat by the door and waited for me. When I was in the house, she never was more than 3 feet away from me.. 110% love. Here are some of my favorite shots of her.. notice how she went grey with me..

Apple does it again! Apple announced today that it has developed a breast implant that can store and play music. The iTit will cost from $499 to $699, depending on cup and speaker size. This is considered a major social breakthrough, because women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them. -

Refurbished/reconditioned Macs. I usually purchase refurbished/reconditioned Macs. For myself I get them directly from Apple with full warranty. These are usually computers that have been returned and refitted with new parts. Great VALUE.. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac For my business, a bit more used, one model back saves you a ton. http://www.macofalltrades.com/Apple_Notebooks_s/5.htm I just bought a 30" display from directly from Apple for $1,299 and saved $500 It was indistinguishable from new.. -
heat the fluid to vapor temps and cook the birdy faster.. My post was about the wire/rod bird holders with an aluminum can inside... I fully understand why the one you have would work and also be able to hold, heat the fluid to vapor temps and cook the birdy faster..

Re: Chicken Rocket As far as I remember he found that it never gets hot enough to boil the fluid inside the can because the chicken shields/insulates the can from heat. Maybe the big heavy one above can absorb enough heat from below to get to 212º

Better Long Term Solution 4 Knob & New Spring Photos We were limited in our solutions by the earlier design where there is a wood screw on one side of the airflow dial. One of the frustrating things was trying to get the wood screw to tighten firmly to an inflammable material. In the post above you can see the solution we came up with using the metal tube and refractory material. The problem is that with expansion and contraction of the wood screw it tends to loose it's tightness.. We've decided that the best solution is to completely abandon the wood screw, in this case it means replacing the low airflow dial completely, something I was really trying to avoid. The only way to get a secure tight connection is to use a metal screw and nut. We welded together a stainless tube, washer and nut, then sliped this into a hole in the teak knob and then run a pin through it from left to right to secure it. Components Prototype welded up.. New spring on right.. Less pull when fully closed, more umph on the top end when fully opened.

cooked bones are brittle & can splinter I was always told the problem was that cooked bones are brittle and can splinter into very sharp pieces.. In the street markets here they have this habit of chopping a full cooked chicken with a massive cleaver.. This shatters the bones leaving very sharp, very dangerous pieces of bone. I'm always afraid of cutting my mouth just eating the meat off them. This has to be the danger.. You could definitely draw blood with some of them.

thick walls hold and reflect more heat into the wood I think the thick walls hold and reflect more heat into the wood causing the volatiles deeper inside to turn to vapor and burn off.. these initial volatiles are what have an acrid flavor, so we want to heat the wood quickly and burn them off.. they are the more white smoke.. You will also notice the blue smoke does not burn your eyes like the initial stuff..

Grill Size VS Cooking Space The KK 23" OTB's actual opening ceramic wall to ceramic wall at lip level is 23". (hence the designation) It's stainless grill became smaller when it was lowered 3" into the tapered body. It was decided that more area could be used if the meat could be right up against the body. This way you can still close the top without touching the food. In a POSK #7 with it's (actual) 21.5" grill, the "usable" area is probably only about 20-20.5" because you need to have some setback to ensure you're not closing the top on your food. Also on cookers with the grill lip level there is always the chance something can roll off.. In conclusion the size of the grill does not always represent usable cooking space. On a KK you can actually use all of the grills surface and the space above and a bit outside it's edge. I'd also like to add that the OTB's shape feels ergonomically larger when working on it..

Here it is.. Here it is.. New tile combo inspired by the Bronze and AN mix..

No that's not mine but thanks anyway.. No that's not mine but thanks anyway.. The KK rack uses the OTB shape more efficiently... And the top view..

Hope to Purchase a KK Someday and Have A Question...

Just had to bite If one accepts the premise that the more heat the ceramic cooker holds, a smaller volume of fuel needs to be burned to maintain a given low and slow temp, this lower volume of fuel burned means less airflow and of course less airflow means your meat will not get as dried out. It is a well known fact that a twice insulated KK holds in MUCH more heat than any of the glazed dense material ceramic cookers.. Whether obvious or not, the insulation's performance will result in more moisture in your meat. Common sense will tell you that the uniform distance from the ceiling of the KK to the grill or pizza will result in more even radiant heat/reflective cooking. It's pretty much impossible to compare even two KK's because of the difference in two different cuts of meat. Different of meat differ can differ in so many ways besides just their grades.. Champion BBQ chefs can cook on metal monsters and get great results but the learning curve is HUGE.. First time Q'ers will consistently get good to great results the first times they cook on a KK. -
your body was not completely heat soaked at 11pm.. This shows that your body was not completely heat soaked at 11pm and then when it was the same amount of fuel burning brought the temp up to 230º. The only reason your temps will ever not be stable is the body is still absorbing or has just started to reflect/give off heat. Start a little earlier and set your airflow to where you know you had it before for a desired temp.. It will end up there.

No one I'd rather ask this! Well I immediately went out and pulled a string around a OTB main grill a got 71" which if it was perfectly round circle would translate into a diameter of 22.6 and area 401 sq" Dave, can I use the same formula for a circle on the OTB shape? No one I'd rather ask this!
