MacKenzie
Did and 8 pound chicken, roti style, I've been dying to try this:) 3.5 hours at 390F, a little hotter than I wanted by just try to cool this thing off;) It is tied and packed tightly into the roti and in the grill. Just out of the KK. Resting. Sliced and exposing the moisture. Plated.
GoFrogs91
Looks great! Glad to see you are making use of all of the new toys.
tony b
As expected, amazing! But, given how trussed up it was, I'd have called it chicken in bondage vs rotisserie chicken! Did you put anything inside the bird? What's the rub on the outside?
MacKenzie
Tony, I wasn't going to have that thing escape, sure didn't want to goof my first roti cook. It was a chicken rub put out by a ceramic grill company. The spice is called Tupelo Honey Crunch. I don't normally do a lot of prepackages rubs but you never know what will happen;) I did put an onion in the cavity:)
Poochie
The entire meal looks delicious. You're on a roll for sure. Keep 'em coming!
tinyfish
MacKenzie that chicken looks spectacular and the plated pictures are making my mouth water.
CeramicChef
MacKenzie - another beautiful work of art called a feast for the eyes and tummy! I love the color on that bird and the money shot is simply superb! How you expect to keep outdoing yourself is beyond me, but you're doing it! All kinds of Kudos on this cook to ya! ckreef
What a really great looking chicken. The biggest down fall of me getting the 16.5" KK was no rotisserie option.
MacKenzie
Many thanks everyone. You were so right this is going to be a lot of fun
SmallBBQr
So that was 8 pounds of bird....that is an 8" roti rack? How many chicken of that size (just cause I don't see a wider angle shot) could you get on at once?
wilburpan
I’ve been loving making rotisserie chicken on Smaug. Yours looks delicious. I haven’t been trussing my chickens in order to get the wings and legs to hang away from the body, in an attempt to get more yummy crisp skin. That’s worked pretty well. The wings and legs don’t seem to be overcooked, although I’ve been cooking smaller chickens than the eight-pounder you did.
MacKenzie
SmallBBQr, I doubt I could get 2- 8pounders in horizontally, if I did it would be tight fit.

tony b
Nice. Much better than the deli chicken sandwich I had for lunch today!
MacKenzie
I'm expecting lots of leftover meals from that 8 lb chicken but then again, I love chicken leftovers. Maybe I'll even do a chicken pie
ckreef
Chicken pie sounds great - I vote chicken pie.

Poochie
MacKenzie, you've got a real talent when you can make a photo of a chicken sandwich look like a 5 star meal! An 8lb chicken can kick a rooster's butt. Looking forward to your next cook.
