There is a maritime set of "rules" for changing the name on a boat............I "loosely" followed them and drank the bottle of champagne instead of breaking over the front of the boat4 points

I have been a boater ever since I can remember. My dad found me a row boat when I was 3 or 4 years old and I had my first outboard when I was 5 or 6. Grew up across from the Chris-Craft and Gar Wood factories in Algonac, Michigan. I have owned 2 or 3 boats for most of my adult life........operating them on 3 of the Great Lakes & Lake St. Clair, the upper Mississippi River, small lakes in Ohio and now on a nice lake in Upstate New York that is part of the Erie Canal system. When I was in high school, a girlfriends dad had this sweet 35 foot Chris Craft cruiser. I always admired that boat and how it looked on the water. Thought it would be nice to own one some day. Forward 40 years later........................................ Last fall I was exploring an out-barn at our marina and found the exact same boat that I had admired for so long, tucked back in a rear corner covered with dust and bird & raccoon poop. I asked the marina master about it and he told me it was tied up in an estate fight. Didn't give it another thought until this spring when the marina owner told me the family ended up giving him the title for the storage fees they owed. He said I had first dibs to buy it. I told him no.....didn't need another boat!!! Went home, could not sleep, went back the next day and said "OK, How much?" Let's put it this way.........it was less than what I paid for my KK. It is a mess. Needs a ton of work. Was running when it was winterized 10 years ago, before going into the barn. 1960 - 35 foot steel hull - Chris-Craft Roamer cabin cruiser. Twin 283 CI gas engines - small generator. Bottom needs sand blasting & some patches welded. There is some rot in the wood cabin that needs repair. The goal this year is to clean it up, grind bottom rust & prime, paint the bottom, seal the cabin wood, put it in the water, get the engines running and see what major repairs it is going to need going forward. Did paint the transom and put the new name on the boat. Here are some before and after photos.3 points

Thanks.................Check out the story below: There is a back story on the name "Old Dog"...........................a good friend of mine, Robin and I co-owned a little 8 lb. Yorkie pup. Jasper. He was a great boater and loved to drink beer. If you put your can down, he would finish it for you. One day, after an afternoon on the water with one of my buddies, his co-owner Robin came to pick him up. When she picked him up in her arms and smelled beer on his breath (I guess we didn't watch him that close),........she started giving my buddy and I the business. At the same time, both my buddy and I said "Bad Dog!!!!!". Robin was not amused but we thought it was hilarious. The next summer I bought a new boat and the re-naming process began. Below is the name and logo the family voted on. Sadly, this June at 15 years old Jasper is no longer with us. Robin, family & friends all agreed that the new name and logo (artists rendering of Jasper) was perfect for the new/old boat. Hopefully in a few weeks, they will be docked next to each other3 points

After the WFO oven I swore no more grills but Mrs skreef learned not to believe that line of crap a few grills ago - LOL For the last few years me and Mrs skreef have been taking an Akorn Jr on vacation with us. Our honeymoon, rental cabin, sisters house, the beach, even NASCAR. The Akorn Jr has served us well but when Primo came out with the GO Cradle for their Oval Jr I knew I would eventually get that setup. We had that lunar eclipse a couple of weeks ago and it made my wallet have a mind of it's own (that's my story and I'm sticking to it ) Well it finally arrived at my local dealer and I picked it up yesterday. The inner workings and a few extra parts. Here is the GO Cradle. 9 bolts/nuts and about 10 minutes to assemble. Fairly study with nice two hand handles. Altogether now. I had some time before dinner so I fired it up to play with the vents. First stop was low-n-slow. 240* was easy enough. I let it ride there for almost 2 hours until we were done eating dinner. After that I bumped it up a bit and let it ride there for 30 minutes or so before shutting down the vents and going to bed. Very pleased with it's performance and will be cooking dinner on it tonight. It's basically Jr on steroids.....1 point

This setup is listed at 116 lbs so doable with 2 people although probably won't walk this down the long path to the beach.1 point

Looks good as long as you don't have to carry it to far lol I know the Jr is not exactly light Outback kamado Bar and Grill1 point

I live in a very temperate weather zone. But like everybody here has said a Good cover is a great idea. Dennis makes the best covers for the KK’s easy to put on and take off. I have my KK and cabinet under a lanai cover but still cover them when not in use.1 point
-
A decent cover will do the trick. We get an average of 12 feet of snow per year and my cover has kept the cooker nice and dry. I do try to cover the cooker while it is still a little warm.1 point

Nothing no to worry about! I am a cold weather guy and have one in the mountains of Japan and one in Jackson Hole. No problems handling the coldest of cold or grilling way below zero. Just buy a cover and no worries.1 point

Thank you! And that chocolate cake is devine! I had a request for the recipe the next morning and the day after than my other friend was inquiring about leftovers LOL1 point

I cooked about 250 and total coming time was 7.5 hours for brisket and 8 for the pork. The brisket was a little smaller than normal, 11 lbs before trimming. I flipped both at the 2 hour mark and wrapped and flipped again at the 4 hour mark when they were both close to 160. And they were cooked direct on the main grate.1 point

Untreated. I know they have safe treated wood out these days but how long before they discover that it is not as safe as they thought.1 point

Everything is but a google search away. I can report that amazon.com sell shiso seeds. And I am sure there will be others in the US who sell the plants. It is difficult for anything to be "rare" these days.1 point

Whoa! Road trip!! Thank you @DennisLinkletter!!! Reaching out today.1 point

I will ask a friend as she knows the person I bought the start plant from so she might be able to find the source of the seeds. I would like to grow it again for sure.1 point

Love the new name!!! So, this is where you've been hiding all summer. Well, at least you weren't in the poky or the hospital - LOL!!1 point

I am anxious to see it back into shipshape, all cleaned up and painted, it will be stunning.1 point

Need to find a source for it, as I might try and grow some myself next year! Any tips on where to find seeds or live plants?1 point

I'd describe farofa as having that sandy texture. Kinda makes it unique and interesting from other starches. Plus, anything where the preferred cooking method is to cook it with bacon fat, is top notch in my book! Look for it also as "manioc flour."1 point

It never ends.......my first kamado was a Primo JR. Then I bought a Primo XL. Then I bought a 19" KK. Not making that same mistake again......Now I'm saving for a 42" KK1 point

BTW, Tony, I did fry up a couple of leaves when I did my potato and bean breakfast, nice. I'll be doing that again. I wonder how shiso dehydrates, I think I'll find out.1 point

Hey Tony!!! Don't want to steal this thread..................so quickly...........I'm a boat nut. Have been my whole life. Bought a 1960 Chris-Craft Roamer (barn find) and have been working on rebuilding it this summer. Ton of work but a labor of love. Not much time to put together a wonderful meal like Shuley . That was FANTASTIC!!!!!1 point

I’ve been doing a lot of my cooks on the top with a drip pan underneath on the main grate, no idea why it just seemed like a good idea at the time1 point
