food costs A friend of mine in agriculture tells me the US has one of the lowest food costs relative to average gross income. Japan one of the highest. the US produces such a surplus of food its farmers are dependent upon export business which pays more than domestic. Foreign consumers are more willing to pay for the top grade of produce than the US consumer. The extra charges at the harbor may have to do with trade agreements between the originating (Shipping) country and the receiving country, or type, weight, and size of the product. Or, I don't know if they have unions in Switzerland, but they may have something to do with the harbor, unloading fees. There may be special gov't fees for improvements and maintenance or repairs to the harbors. Regardless....ouch I feel for you.

BBQ veggies Sanny...don't forget the BBQ'd asparagus and carrots I pm'd you about. Toss will olive oil and onion/garlic powder, grill on lower heat, Finish with light salt, toasted sesame seeds and drizzle balsamic vinegar. Allow veggies to get a little carmelized and the combination with the balsamic is great. I do not like raw carrots, but I love them grilled.

plug holes This is link to Dennis previous answer to this question. Now I sort of feel like the nerd in the class who has way to many answers. If I could only focus my memory on more personally usefull things like what I went to the store for. http://www.komodokamado.com/forum/viewt ... highlight=

plugs I thought I read on this forum that each of the accessory manufacturers includes a special silicone plug made to fit the holes as they provide the specs to Dennis for the hole sizes. Also that there is a plug made from the refractory material inside the hole to punch out when you are ready to utilize the accessory. Dennis thinks of everything!

ladder legs Dennis....I saw it in a local Lowes and it was a webber knock-off. I will go on their website to see if I can find it and send you a link. -
Hey Curly....My point was just that wife or fiance implies a longer term committment that would infer greater considerations for purchases like this...more of a joint decision with thought of longer term future together. Girlfriend/boyfriend are terms that imply (to me) not necessarily permanent, and there shouldn't be expectations regarding each others purchases. I would hate to see him settle for something less than what he wants if he does not truly think this is a long term relationship. Yes I am very independent. Companionship is great, but at a point in life where the term till death do you part is a haunting phrase! Hey...its a BBQ not a baby. My point is consider the relationship, consider the magnitude of the purchase and go for it. If the relationship fails over a BBQ I've saved him! I was trying to simplify the decision for him

Forum help on NEW OTB Upper grill design

ladder legs Dennis...the other day I saw an inexpensive grill with interesting feature. The legs were ladder legs (notched) that could be set at different heights. In the grill I saw it was a lower grill and I wasn't sure if it was meant to hold charcoal or lump to be raised closer to the main grill. The ladder leg feature just caught my attention. Don't know if that helps or not -
check with girlfriend Hey Greg....Just my opinion, but if she is girlfriend (not wife or fiance) I don't see the problem. I would not expect a boyfriend to factor me into a purchase, nor I with him. Odds are you will have the BBQ longer than the girlfriend! She can either get on board or not get on board (definitely her choice), but you should get what you want and so should she. Besides, this stuff is not difficult, it is not too heavy for her she can either learn to use it or let you cook and she can do the dishes!

gas burner I thought you just used a different interior jet (I think it was called a venturi but not sure) on the same burner. I converted my old gas grill to natural gas. Took the parts down to a local propane guy and he switched them out for me. The parts were pretty cheap and there was no labor charge (it didn't take 5 minutes)

curly's new avatar Hey curly...did you have a rough weekend or did you get a makeover? Have you been to Dr. 90210?

coral color Firemonkey...isn't coral kind of a pink color?

thermometer Sanny....For unattended cooking you should have one probe for BBQ temp and one for the meat temp. You need to know what your fire is doing as well as the meat. If you are reading a book, I would highly recommend something with audible alarms. I am not real familiar with different brandsand costs. I have a redi check but I have read many complaints on them.

logo I personally wouldn't want a lizard or dragon on my BBQ. We may need options for the Logo

website make-over Jasen, Great job. Maybe new career in website make-overs.
-
logo Jasen. for my 2 cents worth, I agree the dragon looks like a lizard (I'm not sure what a salamander looks like). My suggestion is a larger image of the cooker (maybe slightly open with fire in it and) between the Komado Kamado with Japaneese symbols arched over and under the cooker. Komado and Kamado are relatively unfamiliar words to most, and I think the image will need to be more prominent for quicker recognition of what the product is.

Kumar's new toy That is a beauty. The legs on these units are so much more proportionate to the design of the unit than the kamado. The tile on the legs just looks more finished and the transition from bbq to legs is smoother. Good pictures, I like reference objects adjacent to the bbq. Maybe someone will use one of those height charts like they put in the doorways of minit marts to give reference to size of thieves.

Dennis...I believe I read somewhere about some possible teak products, carts, cutting boards. Any update on this or other new accessories? I bought a great bamboo lounge chair from the store on LaBrea, any more of those? My dog thought it made a great bone. Dog and chair are both gone now. Any bamboo accesories? I also purchased a scrolled iron 3 panel screen that I use as a backdrop to my other ceramic cooker. Any scrolled iron products to be offered up? samantha
