rogerfromco
Hey guys, Rak invited me over - don't hold it against me! Lol. I see some familiar names from other forums. I just got a Primo XL this year and the KKs make me feel like I'm cooking on a portable Weber! The KKs are art and built like a Patek Philippe watch. I'll probably lurk more than participate. I'm trying to do some research to see if I want to try to sell the Primo this summer. One thing I couldn't decipher on the KK website was what accessories come standard with the 23"? See ya' around and GO BRONCOS! Roger
tony b
Welcome, Roger! Talk to Dennis (owner). I've kinda lost the bubble on what's standard now, with all the neat accessories he's added over the last couple of years. Will just say this much - you get everything you need to start cooking right out of the gate, unlike another green thing that we don't discuss over here! All the cooking grates, heat deflector, drip pan. Then you can start adding on things like the pizza stone, rotisserie.
bosco
Welcome to the forum roger. This is a wonderful site. You will love it over here. For the 23" you get the KK, 3 levels of cooking grates, charcoal basket and deflector stone and basic drip pan Accessories added on would be: side tables double line drip pan charcoal splitter baking stone rib rack cover rotisserie I think that is all of the extras The KK is honestly the single best kamado on the market. I came from 6 kamado Joes so this was a tough decision for me as well but one that I was very happy to make. List that primo and get cooking on the 23" You're only regret will be that you wish that you did it sooner!!! Welcome
Rak
hahahahah Welcome Roger! I knew that wouldn't take long! You are going to get great information here from the pro's, but I do suggest having a preliminary conversation with Dennis. He really is a 'no pressure' guy and will tell you more about the KK then I ever could! Great to see you here!
rogerfromco
Thanks guys. Thanks for the info on accessories - that is pretty complete. I saw the cover was recommended for places with freeze / thaw cycles so I was wonder, do the side tables fold down and go under the cover, or do they have to get pulled off? MacKenzie
Welcome, you will love the KK, and please do have a conversation with Dennis. He knows his stuff and he is terrific to deal with, as someone already said, there will be no pressure from him. You might get some from us though. wilburpan
Welcome to the KK forum, Roger! As far as the cover and side tables go, you do have to take off the side tables to put the cover on. They come off very easily, and hang on hooks that are on the side of the grill. Or you can just lean them against the house.

rogerfromco
Thanks wilburpan. I was just looking at the Naked Wiz review and saw how they attached in both the up and hanging positions - really well thought out.

bosco
the one thing that you will quickly learn is that Dennis has thought of everything before it goes into production. He seems to really know what is needed and how to make it work!!
bosco
As I posted the man himself nailed it with a beautiful response. Everything that you needed to know!!
rogerfromco
Thanks Dennis and Bosco. I do appreciate quality. One of my other passions is watches. I own a wide variety of brands, and I know that yes, the Seiko tells time and is extremely durable, the quality of construction and design is not at the same level as that of my haute horology brand watches, which will be passed on to future generations. bosco
I am a watch nut as well. I figured that you were after the Patek Philippe comment mentioned above. I have an Omega that is my gem I also love the Nixon line of surf watches... not exactly luxury but still a great watch. I have a 51mm face and love the size!!
rogerfromco
Are you in the US? I can hook you up with an Omega / Rolex AD or one that sells Grand Seiko, and Tudor that will treat you well, as well as a guy who is connected to a wide variety of ADs and ships worldwide. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Jon B.
Hello Roger!!! Welcome from a fellow Primo owner and member of the Primo forum. Fair warning.................... I ended up buying a KK after joining this forum. I still own both my Primo's and enjoy cooking on them but I do have to say after cooking on the KK there is no comparison in quality and performance. I plan on getting another KK in the near future to replace my Primo XL. Will not say anything bad about my Primo's or my Kamado Joe Jr. but the difference in cooking on the KK is amazing............not to mention how great they look. Many great people on this site and they are fantastic BBQ chefs. Join in and have some fun. Jon B.
rogerfromco
Thanks for the welcome and info Jon. I have my XL in a "Ken's table" that I built along with a 5 burner SS Vermont Castings gasser. I still use the gasser for steaks and veggies - quicker to fire up and shut down and it was my wedding present from the wife 10 years ago and still going strong - built like a tank. I don't have room for a 3rd, so if I go down the KK path, I'll probably flip the Primo and put a new top on it so I can use the lower two shelves for storage and the top for prep, well at least that where my mind is at the moment. After watching the 3-part KK videos on YouTube that look like they were produced in the 80's/90's, it shows that the KK can be up to grilling temp in 10-15 min? I heard the same claim on Primo, but have not found that to be true. If it is, maybe the gasser would have to find a new home. Who knows at this point. My head is spinning with all the info to try to digest.
Rak
LOL there is a lot of information. Just take it in and ask questions. I think the Naked Whiz review was the most informative for me. To be honest, most of it didnt make sense to me until I started cooking on one! LOL but then again, i'm not technically inclined at all! oh, and yes, you can be grilling in 15 minutes! Because of the way it 'pulls' air through and because the air has no where to go other than through the basket, you get up to temp very quickly. So if I'm grilling, I can be at 350F in 15mins without issue.
Jon B.
Roger, I don't do a lot of grilling on my KK (mostly low & slow) but a number of the members on the forum do and have no problem getting up to grilling temps in short period of time. I believe the difference and reason why is that all the air flow into the KK's is directed thru the lump and can not go past the burning charcoal, around or thru the holes in fire box. I'm sure others will chime in on this subject. Ken's table design is a classic but you can never have enough storage for all the extra goodies!!!!! Have fun with all the info. I'm trying to decide on the 32" KK or the new 42" KK???? Decisions.......decisions Jon
