  1. not sure, but didn't they used to use smoke to immobilize bees when they wanted to manage a hive?

  3. Thighmaster, 10 minutes 4 times a week. and I was trying to show restraint. me thinks we will soon be banished to the bad girls corner for being out of line in this thread.
  4. Habit I guess. I tend to stay with the cuts I'm more familiar with. But, I will probably give it a try now.
  5. maybe the rack fit but the ribs didn't!
  6. I see it as a cut here in central Calif as well, but have not tried it since owning a ceramic.
  7. There was a very funny video going around at xmas about men getting sent to the doghouse for giving the wrong kind of gifts (vacuum cleaners, etc) to their wives/girlfriends. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_F2md4uGmMU slightly off topic, but at least on topic for the dog house...well it is Dennis' playground!
  8. flashback I started with a ceramic grill back in 2001, and had personal experience with flashback as well read numerous stories of others' experiences. Last night I was preparing a Wagyu tri-tip to take to a party when I had a bizarre repeat. My mom was watching as I was getting ready to check the meat during the dwell. As I went to the BBQ I was explaining to her the procedure to vent the pent-up heat before opening the BBQ. I opened the damper top, the lower damper, waited a bit watching the air flow, opened the top slightly and held it, all the time explaining what can happen. I then allowed the lid to fully open, and the ball of flame shot out up my arm to my face. This is when that spring hinge is really worth it, as I immediately released the handle and spun away. Arm hair was singed, turned black, curled over and brushed off my arm. Hair over my forehead was singed a little, but no serious burn. My lesson became more real then I had intended, and an excuse for having bad hair at the party I guess the point of the post is that even when you are being aware, taking precautions, the power of the flashback can still be underestimated. This is not a criticism of design, but I think the dome design that improves the heat distribution also requires greater time to release the pent-up heat of a hi-temp dwell. I don't intend this to preach to the choir, but to emphasize to recent KK converts to allow a little more time to vent the KK during a high temp dwell. My guess is that the higher humidity in the air may have kept the KK from venting as much as I expected. Oh...and the meat was a real hit at the party. But somehow I forgot to take a picture.
  9. Hi Larry.....my first thought is to try a blend. My second thought is I never used a weber and I don't really know! I haven't used any ECC yet either. I have mixed the POSKoal (extruded) that was full of filler with lump before to stretch the lump and use up the junk from the Johnsons.
  10. I didn't think it would clear the stem of the temp gauge.
  11. Is it actually a metallic tile or a simulated metallic finish? If it is a simulated finish it should not change with sun exposure right?
  12. I'm not sure the turkey will fit on the top grill. You may have to have heat deflector and drip pan on lower grill with turkey on the main grill.
  13. I thought the autumn nebula was not available?????
  14. At least they are dreaming about you guys....they could be dreaming about the pool guy, mailman, or the divorce attorney!
  15. Wow Roy.....your wife is really gonna miss that! Especially since women favor chicken so much....The loss hasn't hit her yet.
  16. When you foil meat right off the BBQ aren't you effectively causing it to sweat? Wouldn't a certain amount of the liquid be condensation from the surface of the meat rather then coming through the interior of the meat? That said, I will concede most discussions of science....
  17. I hope you will get a KK, but whatever ceramic you choose I hope you continue to participate here. The humor will be enjoyed. Now, is this kinda like the Home Dpot commercial where the guy intentionally leaves his tools under the back tire of his wife's car, is so understanding when she runs over them, and goes out shopping for new tools?
  18. Sanny...would that be your favorite cousin or Curly's favorite cousin?
