  1. Nice little kamado. For a long time I owned an Akorn Jr (14" grate) that I took on vacations. I took it on my honeymoon at a cabin where I wooooed Mrs skreef with 4 nights of totally killer meals. Even took it to the beach once for cooking dogs and brats. Should have never gotten rid of that little kamado. Check out a SS canning rack sold at Walmart. You can take the arms off with a pair of pliers. Makes a great extender rack. I've even cooked a few things directly on it. When I get home I'll measure the one I have to see if it would fit in 10". Also cheap disposable pie pans should work for drip pans. You should be able to find them in a 8" version. I've cooked just about everything on that little kamado including a 7 lb butt. The scarey faces picture (in the baking thread) was cooked on it. I owned two of them but sold them to help fund the KK's. I was going to get a Primo Oval Jr with travel cradle to take on vacations but ended up pulling the trigger on Cassiopeia instead. I still want an oval Jr for travel but I doubt Mrs skreef will go for that idea. Might just have to take Prometheus on vacation one day - very heavy but I think me and my son could manage it. 2. You'd be good to go as long as you don't go the my kamado is better than your kamado route. New members join every day and they are welcomed with open arms. Some of those members enter the challenge. Guru is a probably one of the most accepting bbq forums out there. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  3. Nice looking veggie burger. I hear what you all are saying about taking the food porn. It took my family (mostly my son) a good long time to quit complaining about the food porn. Now he realizes the complaining doesn't get him anywhere so he just rolls with it. As for the picture quality that just comes with practice. I look at my pictures from a year or two ago and realize how bad they sucked. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  4. Just snap them with the phone - your a good enough cook your skills will help make up for crappy pictures. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  5. Yup I have a simple point and shoot android camera. Two simple lamps with daylight bulbs really helps. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  6. You enter anyway - who really cares who wins - it's all about pushing yourself. I think you would do better than you think you would - OK say that three times really fast - LOL. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT

I'll be honest I'm a little disappointed in the Canadian crew. In your time of need you have to wait 3 days until Friday? That's just wrong. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT

Yay - I know he's excited - is the weather cooperating? - can't wait to see some pictures. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  9. Tel-tru thermometers are know as high end thermometers. The other kamado brands don't use Tel-tru's. I post a fair number of pictures of my temperature and the Tel-tru logo is clear in those pictures which implies the little things that make KK's the best kamado on the market. If I was designing the logo for the thermometer I would put Komodo Kamado in an arch at the top under the scale and Tel-tru in a straight line at the bottom. That implies Dennis spent the extra time and money to get a custom run of high end thermometers. Best of both worlds. A little extra branding is not going to hurt in my mind. 10. No - the rest of us want to know the answers too - please. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  11. I hear what you are saying but the 4 of us are having a good time with it. You should have came along for the journey, another KK'er would have been awesome. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  12. I have a feeling the voting would go a little different if we could all take a taste. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  13. I appreciate the sympathy. I think I had the opposite problem with this meal. My last whole fish cook I considered a huge success and then this one where I figured I knew what I was doing. I didn't gripe too much at the dinner table because Mrs skreef and my son were enjoying their meal but dang it pissed me off. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  14. TY Rak - it tasted good I just hate making technical errors especially ones that I know better not to do. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  15. Last night was whole fish grilled direct on Cassiopeia served with rice Caserole and rosemary carrots cooked on Prometheus. Pictures first this time. The dinner tasted excellent. The sides were spot on and the fish was flakey and moist. But I did make three technical errors with the fish which makes the cook a failure in my mind but hey that's just me. 1) when prepping the fish I cut through the bones on one side of the spine from the inside. Stupid mistake and not sure what I was thinking. Didn't hurt anything but made the fish a bit harder to eat. 2) made 3 shallow slits on each side of the fish. When grilling direct it's best not to slit the skin as the slits makes it more difficult to flip without tearing up the skin. At least don't make so many, so big on this small of a fish. I should have known better. 3) using the upper grate I should have cooked direct at 500* not 400* like I did. In the past I've found that 500* is the magic number where your grates become truly non stick. This is extra important with delicate fish. Not following my own protocol - Bad Guru. Oh well better fish next time. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT

  17. Sounds like a good time was had. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  18. I too am a griller 95% of the time. Generally I can get the KK up to temp in the time it takes me to prep dinner but I can see how a gasser would be easier for quick after work cooks. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  19. Yea I know and it's for the awesome knife prize - eeeekkk, what was I thinking? - LOL Nah I like tinyfish, it's all good. But note I did have this discussion on the KK forum and not on Guru. In past challenges there have been some entries that were good cooks but didn't do so well, I believe because they had really bad plating and a really bad picture so they weren't as pleasing to the eye as they could have been. It should be all about the cook but reality says the picture does make a difference. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  20. Yes the green is generally more pleasing to the eye but doesn't contrast right with beans IMO. A white bowl with the beans, the white sour cream (?) and the green leaf would have popped out at you especially the green leaf with a white bowl background. Just like I try never to put orange shrimp on a red plate because they blend in and give no contrast. Same concept as putting something crunchy on something creamy - contrasting textures to the palate. When serving the family anything works. For the challenge cooks some voters may never look at the cook thread so you have to make the best of the picture. Many times I went back the next day and looked at my picture and realize what I screwed up from a picture stand point. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  21. How about Canada to Canada shipping? I might be able to get it into Canada for a reasonable cost I just don't know about the final leg. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  22. I actually think a lot about plates and bowls, my biggest problem is I need to go buy a bunch of different ones so I have them to match with the food being presented. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  23. Depends on who's reading - LOL - yes it's wrong - LOL Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  24. There is one true dual fire KK on this forum. Maybe the owner will chime in. I don't think he ever posted cooking pictures with it. Not even sure what sub forum he posted it in but it's out there. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
  25. I have a plan for next summer to hook you Canadians up. We'll see how many batches I can make and how I can reasonably ship it all. Charles - Prometheus 16.5", Cassiopeia 19" TT
