  1. If that's the case simply use a shower cap from a hotel. I've been using them for years when I cook in the rain using the Guru. John
  2. I would bet there is something wrong with the motor. Mine is quiet as can be and the pins stayed tight the whole time. I bought the 8" only. By the way for those of you who get one. Left side is the push-pin type with threads, right side cradle is the one with threads and it is a little tight to slide in to the KK. The other square pin slides in to the motor, then you slide the motor on the bracket, then you slide the pin in to the hole on the KK. Failure to slide it all the way in can cause you to quit turning and you know what that means over hot coals!
  3. And we need the recipe, temp, time etc It looks great!
  4. Sanny you are too funny! I have a local question. I need to run up to Allentown and want to make a weekend out of it. Once the weather warms up I want to take the RV, go camping, and go by the HUGE glass place that is up there. Any idea of any good camp grounds in that area? John
  5. I bought the 120/240 because I have electricity right by the grill. I just couldn't figure out if I would ever use the battery option! John
  6. Dennis sent all the KK parts and I had to try it out. Purdue Oven Stuffer just about 7 lbs, cooked at 350 for +/- 2 hours. I seasoned it overnight first. It was great! You just can't beat the grill and set up Dennis has created! John
  7. And here we are in Maryland http://www.google.com/maps?client=firef ... &om=1&z=15 We'll it's winter now and we are getting snow tonight but there sure are fields of corn in the spring. John
  8. Okay I have the new E-Z Que, the KK, and everything else except .... I need the secret to make them taste like the ones you get at Sam's that are cooked! Any suggestions? I found a McCormick spice on the web that may be it but if you all have any recipe's please post! John
  9. Okay DJ you've got me interested in the sleeves. What diameter, type, and length are you going to order? John
  10. Dry Aging What DJ is doing, in effect, is dry aging the product. You finest steak houses have employed this type of aging for eons. Cryovac has changed the way we get product but dry aging gives us some flavor back. We will buy a Prime Rib, wrap it in a "flour Sack" (clean cotton) and put in the fridge. Daily we change the sack for a clean one and do this for up to 7 days. You can loose up to 10% of the weight of the meat but the flavors are more concentrated. Sometimes you may have to trim off a small piece of dried meat but it is fun experimenting!
  11. Dales injection I have used it for years. I even inject it in to Turkey, Chicken, and Roast. Put some in a pan, add a stick of butter, some extra garlic and onion powder. Simmer, cool, and inject!
  12. I think it was on the other K forum I read it but you need to brine them first, then you smoke them.. Try www.mortonsalt.com
  13. A few questions I just got all the stuff from Dennis for the roti. Which parts go where? I know the bracket goes on the two bolts, on the right side but how about the inserts and the rods with the "curls"? EZ- Que is about to be ordered now. John
  14. Firemonkey - so what part of Maryland are you coming to? Would that be the Annapolis area or are you going to see dear old Dad?
  15. I use ramp mode I use it because it has a beep when you get to the temp. Although I also use the Maverick and Thermapen, it is another safety check and ya know I do get forgetful the older I get! John
  16. Ziploc Bags There are not food grade trash bags. People use them all the time but that is not to say it would ever pass a food inspector. You can now buy GIANT Ziploc bags (4 XL) which are the 10 gallon size at most grocery stores. Acme in my area has them. The UPC is 25700-65644 and they can hold a bunch! John
  17. Burn Off The other thing to make sure of is that you are burning off the smoke from start up. Let it burn for a good 20 minutes to burn off any impurities in the coal.
  18. So who did you get the ezq inserts from? I am waiting to order the motor and basket until I can get what ever it is I need from Dennis/Tony? What size basket did you order? John
  19. Ain't it great! We did a 19 lb Prime Rib and I meant to take pictures all along. Jeez it gets busy and you just forget! Happy New Years, John
  20. I have cooked in snow, ice, rain and even good weather! The best thing about these cookers is that unlike steel cookers, when these get heated up the temp does not dissipate into the air. Remember trying to cook on a gasser or steel in winter and the temp never comes up? Well you fire these bad boys up and you can low n' slo for days. Lesson learned ... get a cover (from johnny_boy) to cover it when not in use. John
  21. Welcome Welcome to the KK forum. You will be totally surprised at how well these cookers work. We look forward to seeing recipes from "down under" so we can branch out in our cooking. However Kangaroo is not available here so let's make sure the recipes are interchangeable! Welcome, John
  22. Manual twharton - I have sent you a copy of the manual. Do not read it as you have been doing fine!
  23. And I can vouch for him! I have always wondered why someone would not cover up a KK in severe weather. You spend all these $$$ on something so beautiful so why not take care of it? Johnny's Jammie's are perfect - high class covers for high class grills!
  24. Pretty Deep Stuff Dennis have you found some of that 5 leaf stuff to smoke? I remember when ..... way back when .... we used to think deep, deep thoughts like this. Tee Hee Good Perspective!
