MacKenzie Posted August 19, 2018 Report Posted August 19, 2018 (edited) Every summer I look forward to making cucumber sandwiches. Today was the day, first I needed to make some sandwich bread, then pick the cucumber fresh from the garden. Fresh from the vine. It is a simple sandwich, mayo, salt, pepper and cucumber slices. Plated. Edited August 19, 2018 by MacKenzie 11
Grant Posted August 19, 2018 Report Posted August 19, 2018 Sometimes the best meal is the most simple one. I too enjoy a cucumber or tomato sandwich from time to time. Your sandwich bread looks nothing short of perfect! 1
MacKenzie Posted August 19, 2018 Author Report Posted August 19, 2018 Grant, thanks. I am glad to hear I am not alone in this adventure. Sometimes the best meal is the most simple one. I too enjoy a cucumber or tomato sandwich from time to time. Your sandwich bread looks nothing short of perfect! 1
alimac23 Posted August 19, 2018 Report Posted August 19, 2018 Oh I can almost taste that! It looks fantastic!I really love my cucumber nice and cold, straight out of the fridge, it’s funny how little things like that make all the difference. 1
ckreef Posted August 19, 2018 Report Posted August 19, 2018 I'm not fond of cucumbers but it does look good. 1

MacKenzie Posted August 19, 2018 Author Report Posted August 19, 2018 I'm not fond of cucumbers but it does look good. Thanks, ck. I must try one with purple crack instead of pepper. 1
Tyrus Posted August 19, 2018 Report Posted August 19, 2018 Where's the beef? Just kiddin, you do remember the commercial. 1
tony b Posted August 19, 2018 Report Posted August 19, 2018 That bread looks amazing! I'm a tomato sandwich junkie this time of year. I have a couple of large tomatoes that are just about ready to pick. Plus, I promised a friend coming to visit this week that I'd make him some fried green tomatoes, as he's never had one before.
MacKenzie Posted August 19, 2018 Author Report Posted August 19, 2018 Tyrus, I sure do remember that commercial.
todc1963 Posted August 20, 2018 Report Posted August 20, 2018 The bread looks great. Have to love the fresh summer sandwiches from the garden 1
Steve M Posted August 20, 2018 Report Posted August 20, 2018 Bread from scratch, grow your own cukes and tomatoes, and I'm assuming you don't have a salt mine . That's about as close as you can get to a make everything lunch. Looks great! 2
Tyrus Posted August 20, 2018 Report Posted August 20, 2018 Hello Mac, I haven't seen Tekeboaround, what's up? I have Google Earth and tried a search of the UK, no luck. Could she be at the pub? Wondering what's on her grill that's all. 1
MacKenzie Posted August 20, 2018 Author Report Posted August 20, 2018 Tyrus, I am sure you will see her soon. She is quite busy at the moment. I think she'll be cooking up a storm soon.
tekobo Posted August 21, 2018 Report Posted August 21, 2018 Tee hee, I have to say that I agree with @Tyrus. Where IS the beef @MacKenzie? Tyrus, thanks for asking after me. I have spent the summer doing a little consultancy work but am now about to start more full time work again. First day back in an office turns out to be in the week leading up to a party where we will be feeding 100+ people. Lots of planning and procuring to do. Am finding time to grill and eat but no time left to post!!! 4
MacKenzie Posted August 22, 2018 Author Report Posted August 22, 2018 Remember those spices I received yesterday? You just know I'm dying to put them on anything so why not turmeric on my cucumber sandwich and some of the Zanzibar pepper. Just look at that colour. In a million years I would not have guessed that it had turmeric on it. This was the best cucumber sandwich I've had this year. It was to die for. 2
Aussie Ora Posted August 23, 2018 Report Posted August 23, 2018 Wow everything look great yum Outback kamado Bar and Grill 1
MacKenzie Posted August 23, 2018 Author Report Posted August 23, 2018 I am getting taste treat ready for the coming winter. Mustard pickles, using my awesome new turmeric - It smelled soooo good I might have to make another batch. 1
tony b Posted August 24, 2018 Report Posted August 24, 2018 That Urfa pepper caught my eye, MacKenzie. I used some of it in my recipe for the Suya Pepper rub. Think smoky paprika. If you've not used Sumac before, it's a nice spice - lemony. Great on plain white rice with a nob of butter. I bet you'd like it on your cucumber sandwich, too! It's a key ingredient in a spice blend called Za'atar (thyme and sesame seeds.) Can't wait to see what you come up with using this spices?
