Another Summer Treat

Recommended Posts

Every summer I look forward to making cucumber sandwiches. Today was the day, first I needed to make some sandwich bread, then pick the cucumber fresh from the garden.

Fresh from the vine. :)

It is a simple sandwich, mayo, salt, pepper and cucumber slices.

Sometimes the best meal is the most simple one.    I too enjoy a cucumber or tomato sandwich from time to time.  Your sandwich bread looks nothing short of perfect!

Grant, thanks. I am glad to hear I am not alone in this adventure.

Oh I can almost taste that! It looks fantastic!

I really love my cucumber nice and cold, straight out of the fridge, it’s funny how little things like that make all the difference.

That bread looks amazing! I'm a tomato sandwich junkie this time of year. I have a couple of large tomatoes that are just about ready to pick. Plus, I promised a friend coming to visit this week that I'd make him some fried green tomatoes, as he's never had one before.

Bread from scratch, grow your own cukes and tomatoes, and I'm assuming you don't have a salt mine :). That's about as close as you can get to a make everything lunch. Looks great!

Hello Mac, I haven't seen Tekeboaround, what's up? I have Google Earth and tried a search of the UK, no luck. Could she be at the pub? Wondering what's on her grill that's all.

Tee hee, I have to say that I agree with @Tyrus.  Where IS the beef @MacKenzie?

Tyrus, thanks for asking after me.  I have spent the summer doing a little consultancy work but am now about to start more full time work again.  First day back in an office turns out to be in the week leading up to a party where we will be feeding 100+ people.  Lots of planning and procuring to do.  Am finding time to grill and eat but no time left to post!!!

Remember those spices I received yesterday? You just know I'm dying to put them on anything so why not turmeric on my cucumber sandwich and some of the Zanzibar pepper. ;)

Just look at that colour.

In a million years I would not have guessed that it had turmeric on it. This was the best cucumber sandwich I've had this year. It was to die for. :)

That Urfa pepper caught my eye, MacKenzie. I used some of it in my recipe for the Suya Pepper rub. Think smoky paprika. If you've not used Sumac before, it's a nice spice - lemony. Great on plain white rice with a nob of butter. I bet you'd like it on your cucumber sandwich, too! It's a key ingredient in a spice blend called Za'atar (thyme and sesame seeds.)

Can't wait to see what you come up with using this spices?
