  1. There are two things on my mind tonight and I’m fairly certain that the only ones who will truly understand are my newfound KKforum friends. First - my 23 ultimate is being delivered tomorrow! Very exciting. And to my list of recent purchases I’ve added a pair of welders gloves and a Daltrong chef’s apron. Highly recommended. It has a little crest on it. I’ve always wanted to wear a little crest. Brings a tear to my eye. And second - a bit of a rant. You people are totally crazy. This site is highly addictive and may ultimately lead to my downfall. After reading about binchotan charcoal and Kongo grills I had to have it. Shipment coming from Japan in a few weeks. Fair warning, my wife holds @tekobo personally responsible.

  2. Really simple Steve. Dry off the fish. Salt and pepper. Double salt on the skins side. Hot plate, generous dob of butter in the pan. Skin side down first, patience for about 2 minutes, then flip. Done. I put the lemon juice over the spinach and tomato’s to steam in the same pan. I prefer the fish with a little crisp on the skin with lemon on the side( in the spinach) Wingman, does this help? That’s the other side of the Pacific Ocean. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. Wow, Tekobo I knew you were opening Pandora’s box with this post. I watched and thought, plenty of peeps will have something to say before I added my tuppence. Here are my thoughts. I enjoy my 23” and occasionally think a 32” would be useful, and occasionally a smaller, mobile KK would be useful. The 42” is beautiful, and boastful, And an engineering feat, however, I don’t see that i could use this more than once a year for a big cook up. Most cooks for a family and friends of 4- 10 can be managed on 19”- 23”, Conservation of charcoal and heat management plays a part in my selection and would then consider a high dome 19” and a a 32” if I had space for 2 KK’s. Otherwise, I’m happy with my 23”. 2 zone cooking, 23” can handle this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. So, this forum is great. You knew that right? I read @Mcjudsten's post and was trying to remember what KK he had. I went to his home page and found that he already owns a cobalt blue 42. No sign of a goat. Interesting that he is planning on a 16 for his second KK. I clicked on one of his posts and it took me to this thread: The title says it is about the 16TT but it contains a lot of good information about the 19TT as well. It seems like all the best people have a 19 TT.🤪 I have been corresponding with @MacKenzie about my choice (she's a great accomplice, gives her opinion but then waits for my latest swing of mood) and also with @Braai-Q. I "assisted" him with his decision to add a 32KK to his arsenal and not get rid of his first KK and he is now returning the favour. I had forgotten that his second KK is a 19. In fact a 19TT, so he has the combo that I am considering. He kindly sent me photos and measured up to see if I can get my custom table fitted between the 19TT on the standard trolley and the 32. It appears not but I will get in touch with Dennis to see what is possible. So, have I made my decision? Errr no. I have flirted with tile. I am still flirting with tile. I am liking the idea of little grates on the 19 that can be cleaned easily in our kitchen sink. I am liking the idea of the less imposing and slightly more portable 19TT on a wheely stand, given I will need to get in to maintain the flower border behind it. Did I say I am also a hypocrite? I won't sign up to social media like instagram but I have spent the last few days using The Husband's instagram account, looking carefully at every KK on Dennis' instagram feed. So many great choices. And the best bit? I get to bother Dennis at 2am his time. Such fun talking to him. Almost there, but I won't rush it. This is almost the best bit.

  7. Hey there @skyros. Chill. We love Dennis for his genius and his foibles. The KK website has come on leaps and bounds but it doesn't tell you everything. It is still a personal service and there are things that are not always as clear as they could or should be. You come to the forum or you talk to Dennis or you get frustrated. I don't want you to be frustrated. Dennis' explanation above actually covers this well. You missed the socket in the motor when you were counting up the three sockets. I don't know what other motors are on the market but my guess is that what has happened is that the motors come with square sockets and Dennis can't control that. He has changed the two sockets that he can control to hex - the ones on the outside and inside of the grill. I have a spit rotisserie and that suits me fine. A cradle seems more constrained and, as @Alohapiggy said, there is more stuff to clean. Good luck with your choice. Come back if you need advice with how to fit the rotisserie or give @DennisLinkletter a prod to ship the roti kit with some instructions!

  8. Woo hoo @StevenS. I would love an apron with a crest. And decent gloves. Oh yeah, that 23 ultimate sounds like good fun too. You know the drill. Pix! As for the binchotan and konro grill? You won't regret it. Not one little bit. Although it sounds like I might, if I meet your wife. 🤗

  9. Pork chops with mushroom gravy today for lunch. tonyb, you posted pics recently with mushroom gravy, had me drooling, I could not go any longer with out making some myself, it was delicious. Thanks. This pork is a FFA project that was put on hold when the Houston livestock show was canceled due to the Covid. My friends grandson agreed to sell us half the hog. Very tasty.

  11. Naaaa. It's been great. I has reminded me how different everyone's circumstances are and how I need to trust my instincts about what will work best for me. One day I may end up with @alimac23's two 32 dream team but not in this garden. As it stands, my 23 is not sold yet so the end game could be a new 32 and my existing 23. Which would seem eminently sensible but I am not always sensible.

  15. Wow, I'm hooked on skewers. These skewers are great. Anything a Weber kettle can do better than a Solo Stove fire pit, a KK can do far better than a Weber. This kind of grilling is the thrill and the taste of roadside grilling in Thailand or Morocco. I could never quite recreate this flavor profile on a Weber or a KK. I believe that there's a big advantage to the taller-than-wide orientation in a Solo Stove fire pit, that would be lost with their new grill. Whatever goes over what's left of these embers is surrounded and bathed by the rising spotlight of hot air and radiant heat, a convection oven effect.

  16. South Golden Beach. About 20 minutes north of Byron Bay. You would have driven past it going from BB to Noosa. Both great beaches. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. I love my spit roti Skyros. A call to Dennis to confirm the age of your KK and you will be guided to the right components. Punch on with the roti, I’m sure you won’t regret it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. My 2 cents regarding the cradle versus spit topic. Spit. I own a cradle for the 23" and 19.5"; i hate them, too many parts to clean, difficult to manage. I stopped using the roti for that one reason.

  19. @Basher what beach is that? I spent a bunch of time in Byron Bay back in 2007 and also spent time in Noosa when I was down in Australia for 6 weeks. and for the record Red Snapper is one of my favorites. Love both those dishes shown

  20. I have no doubt I'm going to love the combo of the Konro & bichotan. When I first got my former KK I tried to convince a friend to get one as well. He opted to go with an Argentinian-style grill made by Grillworks (42 CRE). We cooked on it a couple times without having a clue what we were doing and consumed a breathtaking amount of firewood in the process. The third time I was over he had wagyu steaks from Lobells and I said "Let's throw them on the grill!" He shrugged. I asked "Are you not happy with the grill?" He shrugged again. "It uses too much wood and is too much work, do you want it?" You don't have to ask me a question like that twice. I rented a uhaul truck and drove it from Boston back to my home in NJ. Came to learn that you needn't wait until the wood is reduced to coals to begin the cook - once lit you can pretty much start right away. Been enjoying it ever since. Perfect accompaniment to the KK. I ordered a medium wide Konro, which will fit in one of the charcoal bays of the Grillworks, this way I can use the adjustable grate height to be able to cook thicker steaks & chops above the fire. Love the fact that the binchotan doesn't flare up much.

  24. Originally all KK's had square drive sockets and shafts. There are three sockets in the no-airflow KK roti drivetrain. One in the motor, one outside the grill and one inside the grill. Square sockets have a bit of play.. this play X 3 created a situation where the roti cradle would fall forward an inch or two at some point in the rotation. HEX sockets have much less play, so we changed the outside and inside sockets to hex and the corresponding shafts. The motor is still square.. the motor shaft is square at the motor side and hex where it goes into the KK. Can't argue with success, the roti has some movement but it's usually from the motor not play in the drivetrain sockets. We still supply parts and accessories for every KK ever built.

  25. Braai there are plenty in our retail shops here. They are pretty sexy, mostly extruded aluminium body. I haven’t heard bad reports from a cooking point of view. Build quality looks ok. Totally different product to KK. I don’t know any bbq that compares to KK. Even a BGE is a totally different product even though cooking methods may be similar. Kind of Art Deco looking design. 26. I don't know if Heston is the KK of Konros. I've not seen one, but don't know anyone who has seen one. They mythically exist online and I doubt they will touch a KK in quality. I know Dennis is safe. I'm like you @tekobo in being a traditionalist but sometimes validation is good. Heston has this habit of messing around with everything and sometimes things don't need to be reinvented. Every now and again, I'll see some of his range in Waitrose (for those who don't know, Waitrose is the premium supermarket in the UK and he has a product range with them). It's generally fairly exotic, expensive and in my experience, frequently disappointing. I regret being sucked in by the concept and packaging and I rather fear that his foray into BBQ will be much the same. Although that said, I do have a Sage Slow Cooker with his endorsement and it's excellent. I'll report back if I ever get to see any of the Everdure products in person.

  29. School holidays here and the covid restrictions are slowly being lifted. So, our beach house is now accessible across the state border into New South Wales. I had to duck back to work today- about an hour away and came back to this. In the fridge X 2 The neighbour went fishing this morning and although I missed the fishing, he caught his load and generously donated. Turned one of the red snapper into this. Delish, and very simple cook. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  30. Tough but fun decision. The space is fantastic - could easily see a 32 + 21 there (pebbles of course). We will likely end up with a 42 and a 16 . . .everyone has to solve for a different space and situation. Good Luck!

  31. @BasherThe ultimate plan was multiple layers of light. The candles really helped finish but I have to tell you I wasn’t adamant on the step lights till I saw yours installed but they really are a nice touch.... still waiting on solar/roof/battery/EV chargers permit from the city. They rejected the first one so we had to resubmit and wait another 6 weeks. Once that’s done we can do that project, tent the house then finish installing all the citrus trees. Right now I got a passion fruit, orange, lime and lemon tree sitting on my side yard in pots that I’ve been watering for the last two months
