  2. easier (and less cost) The problem is that the tubes are lower at the ends /closer to the cooker floor. so unless the hole permitted wiggle that might later get sloppy over the years... If we can find the right rigid expanded plate screen we could make this with out a frame with a plasma cutter.. And yes... I am going to send them out to the Komodo family gratis..
  3. Mock up of a removable screen frame.. Yikes.. What i think I need to make is a rigid screen that has two holes in it that can be slid from the inside onto the two guide tubes making a protective barrier. That way pieces can't land on a tall pile and roll down.. Here is our lil mock up of a removable screen frame.. Easily removed and installed...
  4. What about a perforated deflector? To combat this heat loss and make indirect more efficient, has anyone ever tried anything perforated. Maybe some small holes that would let just a little heat pass through but not scorch anything above?

  7. What is too much heat deflection? What is too much heat deflection? Too indirect? With the original round one I've found that the outsides of the grill are dramatically hotter than above the deflector and cook as if it was direct.. I've also not had room enough in the indirect area..

  9. Time to make the heat deflector reflect the shape of the cooker.. My hypothesis is that a larger deflector gives one a larger protected area above it. This template is the same size as the top opening of the firebox. Is this the consensus of the group or should it be one inch smaller all the way around?   10. Empty ashes from burner..30 second job Yup, but this is a 30 second job... Slide it out and tap it on some newspaper, then slide it back in. It can also still be used with some ashes on top..

  13. Re: I'm a day early Rubs... No problem.. I've left things days rubbed out.. Never leave 'em in brines too long they get a little hammy, really watery..
  14. how long does that take? The Tel-Tru thermometers were back ordered and we have been promised up they will go out on Oct 10th.. Your gas and upper has already arrived in Atlanta and will be sent out to you any minute now.. Your 3/8" are being sent from Indo.
  15. Temp Control For low temps, I usually close the top and then turn it with one hand and hold the other hand above the edge of the damper top until I can feel the heat rising. Then I go down below and fine tune.. As long as you feel the heat, your coals/burn won't die. Remember this is all about keeping the heat in and reducing airflow so your food won't dry out.
  16. Upper/Sear Grill The handles are now larger to make the grill more stable inverted down below.. Using gloves is a must in this situation.. Read Dangerous... Upper Over Upper over and Hot! Does not take long!

  18. Re: Guru termperature probes But the Maverick meat probe has a 90º turn and needs to be gently, partially straightened. BTW It's actually a sleeve/tube not just a pre-drilled hole..

  23. From the first week in March until now.. Damn I'm proud.. Of course I could not have done this with out you.. Thank you for supporting and believing in Komodo and myself. Building these cookers is really satisfying and it's an added plus to have the support and appreciation for what I'm doing.. and I've only just begun.. I have lots of ideas and our quality just keeps improving.. What I shipped a few months ago could never get out the door today.. This forum has really evolved to where is is today.. those of you who have been here from the gitgo have seen this evolution. I think we all should be proud of where we are now.. Thanks again to all..
