Nice! If you've spent any time on this forum, its not going to surprise you to hear that you're going to love it!

Thanks, @tony b and everyone else. Super helpful to this noob. Quick update on previous post - I finally figured out how to put a halt to the incessant text messages. Turns out its simply a preference. Why the default is every 5 minutes when the point of this thing is to control a long cook is beyond me, but I've now got things under control - at least in that regard. Felt a bit like an idiot for not figuring that out later (what? read the manual?! who does that?!), but I'll blame it on the 6:00am start time and the lack of caffeine...

Hmmm... So much for the sight gag. Try this? A little low res, but you get the point! The Turkey and the Kamado(1).mp4 -
@marinmatt - I recently went through the same decision process, chose the 32 BB and haven't had a single regret. the versatility of the 32 was the deciding factor for me. True two zone cooking capability, gobs of grill space for big cookouts, totally manageable for small cooks. I've loaded the thing up with racks upon racks for weekend get-togethers and have used the basket splitter for smaller cooks (say, when its just a streak or two for my wife and me). Admittedly, I tend to have a "go big" mentality (comes with being 6'4"!), but I really do think its a great choice if cash, space or other considerations aren't a factor.

Thanks guys - I let Darth come up to temp with vents open (rather than letting the fan do its thing) and overshot. I've just closed bottom vents entirely and will let the fan do the work. I've got cap open about a quarter turn, but will also dial that down a bit. Fortunately, this is a fairly simple and forgiving cook! @ckreef - one additional observation from my second use of the CyberQ Cloud - if you set it up to notify you by text of what's going on, and you begin to overshoot the temp, be prepared for an onslaught of text messages. My bad, I suppose, but pretty annoying!

O, so here's a question for you - if you use the Pt Viper fan, do you close all of the other vents and allow that to control air flow? I'm working on a pork shoulder now, and have the Pit Viper attached at half throttle and the vent open just a tad. Without Pit Viper, I'd expect temp to hold, but its slowly climbing, even without the fan running. I'm guessing additional air is pulling through the Pit Viper even when the fan isn't running?

Granted this is coming from someone with no previous experience with any similar device, but I think you'll be happy. Connecting to my router was simple and effective. The ability to monitor the status of your cook (pit and food temps) also pretty cool. As Dennis has suggested previously, the Pit Viper seems to be of little utility - the KK is so easy to control, having the fan really didin't make much of a difference. That said, it was nice to use to stoke the char when I was ready for the sear. Not sure I really like the Share My Cook interface, but its not a big deal really - I don't plan on sharing my cooks with anyone other than my KK peeps. I've still got a few things to sort out in terms of functionality and am looking forward to using it for a long cook, but I'm pretty happy with the purchase so far.

I thought I'd try to "live stream" it for you, @ckreef, but it seems there's a problem uploading photos right now. I'll report thoughts and photos as soon as I can.

I just bought one this week and am going to take it for a test drive this evening - just a short cook (reverse sear on some fat steaks) to get the hang of how it works. I'll let you know how it goes, but I suspect from all I've heard from others on this forum it should be pretty straightforward (I just have to sort out where to thread the pit and food probes....)

Fantastic looking cook. One of these days, I'll get the nerve...

@Buschjs - you will not be disappointed! I was a BGE guy for years until Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall. Like you, I lurked among the fanatics on the KKForum until finally I pulled the trigger. Its gonna blow you away! Send pics of the new arrival and enjoy!

Well done, @MadMedik - looks super!

@tony b, I suppose I got a little excited with the drill. In hindsight, I can understand why fewer holes might be better. The wood turned to coal and not ash, so I guess I didn't screw it up too badly! -

A lovely spring day and an opportunity to get together with friends gave me a chance to put Darth through his paces yesterday. Stole an idea off the forum and made myself a nice little cast iron smoke pot. Worked great! Kudos to those who are willing to share their ideas with us noobs! Loaded up with some baby backs and a couple slabs of beef back ribs - both dry brined and rubbed. A little smoked mac and cheese... My first two tier cook - ha ha! -
Holy moly, @alimac23 that looks awesome!

That's what I'm talkin' about!

Done yourself proud with that one, Randy. Kudos!

That's a great looking cook there, Aussie! Between your rotisserie thing and @ckreef's pizza pans, y'all have already got me thinking about more accessories!

Lots of Problems Lately

Its happened to me often - usually when I try to use an emoji or after I've spent an inordinate amount of time trying to craft something clever. Guess that's what I get! -
Willie. Greatest of all time.
