Since we're on the subject of owls ... this guy (Great Horned Owl; sorry but the iPhone 6s just isn't good at zoom/telephoto work) has been hanging around the neighborhood. They supposedly have a nest within a mile or so of our house but we haven't found it; yet Stitch the little Min-Pin gets escorted when she's in the backyard now3 points

On vacation at my sister's house for Thanksgiving. Was looking through the Black Friday flyers and Best Buy had a camera I've been looking at for a decent price. About 8:00 pm on Thanksgiving I went to Best Buy with the thought - if they have what I want I'll pull the trigger - if they don't I'll stall until some future time. Well they had what I wanted. Hopefully this will improve my food pictures a little after I figure out what I'm doing. Played with it a bit at my sister's house. After a long drive home Sunday I figured I needed some actual play time. I WiFi connected an old tablet to it, set it up on a tripod and cooked me a quick snack (a brat and some beans). Here is my first official test of the new camera. Not a bad picture. It can only get better from here.2 points

Since we had a ton of people coming to town for thanksgiving my parents asked if I would cook for the night before. Of course I said yes. They bought the rib roast and I had good results. However due to circumstances beyond my control. My roast was over cooked. However I loved the flavor. i didn't get a plate shot. The roast was completely gone with no left overs.2 points

That's cool! I was hoping to get a shot of one in the Badlands when I was there but didn't see one. They live in abandoned prairie dog and ground squirrel burrows. Congrats on the pic!1 point

GHOs are also called the "Tigers of the Sky". They'll take a goose if they're hungry enough.1 point

Good move Dan, a Min-Pin would be a snack for the big bird. On the up side I bet you have no rodents!1 point

Yeah, that headless chicken thing is always a show stopped for a young kid. Another funny, and somewhat terrifying thing for this kid, was when my parents were living in San Francisco where my father was stationed in the navy right after WW2. As a 2yr old toddler I remember a big wharf with fishing boats (I know now it was Fishermans Wharf) and my parents were talking with someone who was standing behind a big barrel (probably 55 gallon drum) I was curious. So, when that guy grabbed something off the top of the drum that I could not see until he put it on the ground in front of me; scared the poop out of me when a big dungeness crab started crawling toward me!!! I took off running as fast as my short little legs could carry me with several people in hot pursuit. Needless to say I have been afraid of spiders ever since. Similar the the chicken incident1 point

Tartine Book No. 3: Modern Ancient Classic Whole Amazon has many Kindle books on sale for Cyber Monday, and I picked up Tartine Book No. 3 for $3. Some amazing extensions on what various of us here have been doing with bread: Fermented porridge, ancient grains. I'm excited to try some of these ideas.1 point

PT is scheduled. I will need it before they will release me back to the work force. Very confident I will with time. I will miss my job in the mean time. Mrs. Reef's Bistro1 point

Thanks Aussie Ora, but I was a part time farm kid that spent every summer on his grandparents farm working and learning the ethics of that environment. It was a great wake up call for a kid that was pretty spoiled. We raised 200 hogs for slaughter, 300 chickens and we milked 7 dairy cows, by hand. 160 acres of small family farm that supported my grandparents family and provided some really good food! Man, I never liked eggs before that, you know the nasty ones that came from a supermarket, but these eggs were fresh and the flavor was so much better I liked eating them. Same for the chickens and the bacon and the fresh churned butter. I was in charge of feeding the chickens and feeding the breeding sows that produced They worked me from pre-dawn to dusk and if I ever started to act up and be a PITA they had 2 methods that got my attention. 1, carrying the horse saddle toward the breed boar's pen, which initially elicited the question from me, "where are you going with that?" which got the reply, "Since you have been so ornery we thought you needed to ride King" (the boar). Needless to say that scared the poop out of me. I used to marvel that the big boar would scratch his back on a powerful electric fence and do so for fun!! The #2 method was give me a hoe and put me in the middle of a 40 acre field of soy bean plants and give me the command to rid the field of weeds. That too was not pleasant. A good experience all in all and also gave me a love of good pork1 point

While we are on the pressure cooker kick I tried it to get a better fries. I took 1 Russet potato and sliced it for fries. PC for 2 mins. on level 1 and did the normal release. Divided the potatoes in half after they cooled. Put half in the freezer, deep fried the other half at 375F. Here they are in the PC. After deep frying, crispy and tasty- That was yesterday, today I deep fried the frozen ones. Huge drop in temp, added too many fries for the amount of oil so not a good test of the method. Crispy but the inside was no as good as yesterday's fries but they may be due to the huge drop in oil temp. Still good though and crispy outside. This method is very easy and I suspect it will be the one I'm going to use. I will be doing this procedure again and when I do the frozen batch I'll try to keep the oil temp. up and see if freezing improves the fries over the non frozen ones. Either way I thought the fries were better than the 2 fry/freeze method and a lot faster and easier.1 point

Yeah Charles, you've got Susan at a disadvantage right now, so she pretty much has to eat whatever you cook - LOL!1 point

I was doing pretty good until I got old. Now I have a steel plate in my neck the steel ball in my left shoulder and a steel ball in my left hip. I'm afraid to jump into the deep end of the swimming pool with all that steel I would probably stink right to the bottom lol1 point
