First KK pizza of the season. Heat soaked the KK at 500F. This is day 5 of the pizza dough. The recipe is soooooo simple and it is done in the food processor, takes maybe 10 minutes total. Topping were cheese, fresh chives from the garden, calabrese, mushrooms and fennel and anise seeds. Ready for the grill. It was pitch black outside so no on the grill shots. Baked, 9 mins. Sliced. The second one off the grill.2 points

I bought my KK back in May 2006 I believe, so it's bang around ten years old. It's been sitting in the same spot, out in the crappy miserable Seattle weather the whole time; taking a beating year after year. Rain, snow, hail, moss, even the occasional tree-hugger... She's cooked many Thanksgiving and Christmas Turkeys and Hams, countless smokes, sears and oodles of pizza. It just dawned on me that something must be seriously wrong. My tiles are still intact, the damper spins open and closes perfectly, the lid hinge is still meticulously balanced. In fact it looks like and functions like I bought it yesterday. I'm so confused. Shouldn't it have died a horrible MK death by now and look like a sad naked mole rat? Cheers to @DennisLinkletter for making one of best purchases I've ever made!1 point

First car, I owned 1/2, a neighbor kid and I bought it for $50 each and we took turns driving it. Second car. 3rd car, 1937 Ford. This is a photo of another one but the only difference is that mine had black lacquer fenders. 4th, 1959 Sprite. Got broadsided in a parking lot so I cut the front end off, put a frame under it and a small block Ford V8 in it. You can just barely see a holley 4 barrel sticking through the hood. Although I did not "OWN" it I certainly called it mine. I was in charge of it and drive it to hell and back. 5th, 1968 TR4a-IRS after putting 60k miles on it in 14 months I stuffed a 289 Ford V8 under the hood. 6th, 1971 3/4 ton Ford Van, converted for camping. 7th owned at the same time as the 6th. My commuter vehicle Honda 600 Sedan. 600cc air cooled was a great little car to drive until I got run off the road by a drunk. It was either a headon or take to the soft shoulder and when I steered it back onto the road at 50mph it tripped on the asphalt lip and went airborne! Pretty dramatic but no injuries for me or my Girlfriend, which was amazing. The drunk never stopped but I encountered someone who also saw him weaving and speeding on that mountain road. Mine was white. 3 days after the wreck. Amazing what duct taped and convertible rear window plastic will do in place of glass. I drove it 400 miles home in the rain with the wipers going! The we decided to fix it. We chopped the roof did the bodywork and ran it another 25K miles before selling it. 8th, 1968 VW Bus in Baja California on a fishing/surfing trip and Santo Tomas Quatras Casas. Fun machines to use when taking the VW Bus into the desert. I had a rack on the rear of the buses to take them. d d 9th, 1972 VW Van. Loved driving this but had to sell it to buy a work truck. Sold this to a sweet looking blond woman that looked very secretary type with pantsuit and all. Turned out to be Secret Service Agent!! Always wondered where is was used after I sold it... 10th, 1970 1 Ton Chevy, converted to utility. I also owned this while I had the work truck. 1966 Bug. 1937 D-2 Caterpillar I owned for several years making trails and hauling firewood. I came in handy pu;lling neighbors out of ditches I traded a 1" drive Proto ratchet wrench and a $100 for the utility bed! Drove and worked it for 20 years. 1968 Pontiac. My $135 roller to get up the dirt road comfortably. It finally biodegraded.. Had the truck at the same time. Road AFTER the phone company worked on it... More like wrecked it!! Had this at the same time since it made getting around in the mountains very easy. 11th, Pontiac Grand Am, the smile was more a shriek of horror and panic! It had the second worse brakes of any vehicle I have owned. It would have made a good target. 12th, GMC 1994 3/4 ton Suburban 4x4 with all the HD towing stuff. The worst brakes, ABS allowed me to cruise into vehicles and make a big mess twice! Unplugged the brake system and it worked fine. Finally gave up and got a Honda Element which had great brakes! Honda was a good car but very noisy interior! The current rides. 2009 and2011 MINI's.1 point

My mistake, the Windsor engine was what I was thinking of for the motor swaps into small cars. Thanks for the clarification! The 4.6 liter V8 would have been fun to try to adapt into a small car.1 point

I have discovered a new wave of forum visitors who I believe are wannabe customers researching KK grills. I've make up a new section Posts for KK Shoppers. I'd like to fill it with great unpacking posts or posts with great comments that will help educate these visitors and help them take the leap. Will you please help me find great posts? I've already included CeramicChef's un-crating of the beast and two others that I knew off the top of my head.. Having this targeted all 5 star post area makes sense. Thanks as always for your help...1 point

@Requis, We don't use a lot of Trex here in N Georgia but I think 8" spacing would be OK for a KK and outdoor kitchen. Most of the load is carried on the joists anyway, as long as they're properly sized and supported you'll be OK. Personally, if I was going to spend what Trex costs for decking I'd just go ahead and spend the extra money for Ipe(pronounced Epay). I just did a quick search on pricing, Trex is running around $2.50/linear foot($5.45/sft) for the grooved stuff, Ipe is $3.83/lft($8.36/sft). So it's about half-again more expensive than Trex. BUT: You can make arguments either way but Ipe is a renewable resource and responsibly grown and managed, it comes from a tree and trees consume CO2 and give off oxygen. Trex is made from sawdust, glue and assorted petrochemicals and it takes a lot of energy to make it, no oxygen is produced but lots of CO2 as a byproduct. Ipe can be sanded down and refinished, once Trex is worn it looks awful until it's scrapped and replaced. If you drop something like a hot coal on wood it'll scorch and can be sanded down and repaired, Trex will melt and burn(as @tony mentioned. If you're getting the idea that I'm not exactly a fan of composite decking you're absolutely right. Drop by your local Home Despot and pick up a 16' piece of Trex and see for yourself how floppy it is. Then go pick up a piece of plain old PT Pine decking for comparison. Ipe is to PT Pine as PT Pine is to Trex. Now decide what you want to be walking on. OMG, now I've gone off on my "Composite Decking Rant" again! My apologies, I'm a bit opinionated when it comes to wood butchery. Honestly, I'd be more concerned with the weight from the stone and granite than the KK. Your Fusion stone weighs in at almost 15 lb/sft., granite countertops around the same. If you have a 3' tall cabinet faced with stone and a 24" granite top you're looking at 5x15=75 lb/sft, 7-1/2 times the usual dead load for a deck. My customers are inevitably amazed when I tell them what I have to do to their deck to keep their outdoor kitchen in the air but gravity is gravity and there's no going to court and appealing that law. I've probably given you a lot more information(and opinion) than you wanted but these are all things you need to consider. It looks like your carpenter has a good grasp of the situation, work with him and you should be good to go. Congrats on the new kitchen! Share some pics as it's progressing. Best, Bill1 point

Just a little experimenting night. I knew the roasted potatoes would fall out of the basket without a slight modification. lol Used some foil tape to seal up the ends. Real good cook! The potatoes came off first and the chicken/ pork shoulder CSR's finished about the same time so I just pulled them last. Everything was sooo good especially the roasted taters. They tumbled away in the basket and were well oiled and seasoned prior to going in. Thanks for looking! Definitely lots more room for more food. I used 2 pairs of OctoForks for this cook.1 point

So I had a minor issue that required some funds be diverted to something else, but it throws my purchase off by a few weeks! Was on the website looking at what I could get extra and what I really didn't need right away and found a page I haven't seen before with discounted 19tt on sale which gives me more buying power. It's funny about just finding this page because I saw the 22 Hi-cap on another discounted page. So I am looking at now around 2nd week in June to place my order and I have time to visit Jon to see the size I will eventually be cooking on. Thanks for being on this journey with me to true kamado cooking! Garvin1 point

Welcome and congratulations on coming to your senses and deciding to get a Komodo. It is the best Kamado style cooker I have used and I have been using this style for 55 years! I am retired and my wife and I don't entertain all that often but you will find you have more family and friends than you realized once you share some of the very tasty, moist, products from the KK. We got the 32 so we could have cool areas and hot direct fire areas all in the same cooker and you can get into it to flip meats without burning your arm by going in from the cold side.1 point

If I didn't already have a 19 I'd be all over this like a starving duck on a fat June Bug!1 point

That seems like a great deal for someone wanting to get into a KK that might be on a more limited budget!1 point

I've been to the Preakness a few times in my younger days (when I lived in MD). Always setup camp infield with grill and all. One year not sure I even saw a horse but I did see the bottom of a bottle or two - LOL1 point

I've never been much of a car person. I had a Geo Metro in college and it was perfect for me. It got great gas mileage. I went to college in a city and had to pay for parking. The lot right by the school had a 1/2 spot in one corner that was at a weird angle. They guy said, "If you can get it in that spot, you can park there for half price." I made it fit every time. I can't tell you how many times I needed to haul something in it and the person helping me load it said, "This will never fit in there!" and sure enough, it fit. Took it on a 1500+ mile round trip vacation. Put 125,000+ miles on it before I sold it and never did anything but routine maintenance. I probably saved well over $6 on spark plugs with only having to buy 3! Not my picture, found one on the internet. I doubt I have any pictures of my old one.1 point

Hope you drive it like you stole it lol nice machine I'd drive that to the limit for sure can hear the sirens now lol Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk1 point

Agreed. I bought my wife a 85 Saab 900S. What a great car. It was like sitting in your favorite recliner...could drive for hours and never be uncomfortable. So 85 Saab 900S, 58 Willey's jeep, and 92 Ford F350 4x4 with an injected 460. Passes everything but a gas station. I sill have it. only 90K original miles.1 point

What a bunch of gear heads! Here's the only "sweet ride" that I ever owned - '75 Jensen Healey. Internet photo, but mine was the same color. I would have to seriously dig into boxes of old photos to find a picture of mine. Very fun car to drive, but what a serious PITA to work on. Even simple tasks like oil changes and tune-ups were very hard. And, then there was the issue of getting parts. It was basically an Triumph, but with a Lotus racing engine that was designed to be used once or twice on the track and not maintained! This car was the quintessential definition of "money pit!" I put as much money into it for maintenance (major motor overhauls - 2 of them!), as I paid for the car initially.1 point
